anotha OP-1 banger
This is a revisit of a sketch from 2018. I love the groove; unfortunately I didn't have (/make) the time to really develop it much beyond the ideas I had then.
I had just replaced my OP-1 keyboard to fix dead F#/G# keys, so naturally the first thing I jammed afterwards was in F#.
Not much interesting to note about OP-1 techniques here. So I'll note two things:
* The dirty FM-sounding chords patch; DSYNTH is a tough engine to navigate, but when you find the sweet spots, it's stellar. Most interesting here is that microtuning (+/- cents on the global tune) totally changes the timbre for some reason. I guess it's the DSYNTH filter which is super crunchily resonant? so tiny changes in pitch change how it behaves.
* The main bass patch is a UNISON mode DIGITAL patch (i hardly ever use UNISON because things get dynamically hard to control). In the original sketch it was DNA, but I swear I cannot get the same sound again. DNA supposedly does some binary nonsense with registers/hardcoded UUIDs in the chips, so the patch sounds subtly unique on every OP-1. I wouldn't be surprised if bootloader or firmware version also factored into the sound; maybe that's why I can't get the same thing.
