I am still in my Tidal Cycles phase and having lots of fun. This might stick.

This turned out as a bit of a jam. I had something more structured in mind but ran out of time (I had my birthday yesterday, family from Italy over, and some sleepless nights this week). I didn't really have a good idea yet for how to build this jam up and break it down. You will hear it, because some transitions are awkward. Also, there may be some hiccups in the recording along the way. I have a new (second hand) laptop and audio interface for which I am still figuring out the best settings. However, I still have visitors from Italy over and therefore only limited time to isolate myself smile, so this will have to do.

I also consider my tracks these week mostly as studies - me getting to know Tidal Cycles better, working with plugins that I haven't touched in ages, and trying out different ideas.

I hope it is enjoyable anyway.

I did enjoy this and enjoyed hearing all the parts that came and went.  Seemed like some poly-rhythms in there.

Love the ambiance, vocal chops are really on point, rhythm all over the place has a nice disorienting feeling!

Thank you! Yeah, I forgot to mention that in the description. The rhythms are indeed ... interesting. Polyrhythms are easy to do in Tidal Cycles. I was in doubt whether this was too much, but I also enjoyed the disorienting feeling it gave me (which of course dissipates after listening to it too many times), so decided to keep it. Upon relistening, the timing of the bassline just feels a bit too much out of pace, but oh well. smile

That opening arp gives off a 6/8 rhythmic feel until the hats and snare come in and change it to 4/4. Rhythmic modulation wooo

I think I am going to play more with 'unusual' rhythms for the next one, but more consciously.

Love those opening plucky sounds with the bass and gentle keys, those gated vocals add a nice layer and sit just right in the mix.  Had to look up what is Tidal Cycles, that looks interesting but looks very difficult to learn for someone like me with limited computer knowledge.

Thanks for listening and the kind comments! If you are still interested in exploring this kind of approach, you might want to have a look at strudel.cc. It runs in the browser, so doesn't require anything to get set up. Also, the documentation is pretty good. The syntax is different from that of Tidal Cycles (Tidal is based on Haskell and Strudel is a Javascript port).

bit of a jam, i'll say! love when the beat comes in and sikes us out. and then things continue to unfold. so cool!
hope the rest of your time with family is/was everything it needed to be heart

this is really spacy. i like that some of the sounds sound almost human.
