Whirling of the Vapors

By ViridianLoom on March 22, 2020 11:47 pm

Pretty much my first attempt at the whole synthwave/vaporwave thing. This was fun and came out pretty cool, not sure what more to say about it. Most likely heavily influenced by Garoad, his music in VA-11 HALL-A and Yuppie Psycho blow my mind with how good they are.

I will say this week was rough. 20 hours of overtime due to the pandemic. I started off writing this roughly 8 minute metal song but that became way too big to wrangle in without losing my sanity. Definitely want to be able to kick back on the one day off I got.

Very fun!! VA-11 HALL-A vibes definitely shine through. Hope this week treats you kinder.

That sounds exhausting.  Sorry to hear you had to go through that - hope your day off's been restorative.  If it's any consolation, this track totally hits the mark.  As a big Garoad fan, I can hear where you're coming from, and the composition is pretty on-point.  Great job!

I still have to play that game, but I can chill to this in the meantime. Good stuff.

Thanks! It's a very good "Slice of life" type visual novel. There's not much a plot, just great characters and conversations.

Thanks! Garoad is channeling some kind of magic that I'd like to capture in my own music. There's definitely something to his compositions but I'm particularly after the sound palette he uses. There's just something about his songs that are tantalizing to the ears.

I appreciate it! It's cool that Garoad's influence seems to have rubbed off on me a bit. And unfortunately, it's looking like 60 hour work weeks for at least the next 3 weeks. I'll manage though, I'm fortunate to even have a job right now. I feel bad for those who have been laid off due to quarantine shut downs.

Take it easy buddy - hope you are feeling better and less stressed

Great track, definitely hot synthwave vibes.  love the key change thingy

This was well made for the stressful week. My workplace is having similar overtime requirements, which can be hectic and make creativity difficult to pursue. Nice addition with guitar in the background. I'm trying to find ways to use the guitar in my work that adds to the track without detracting from elements. This track is a good look at how to do that.

Thanks! Yeah this is something I've also been reflecting on, I've been covering kind of a wide span of genres and I'm trying to build that bridge between between the electronic spectrum and analog/acoustic instruments. There's another user on here that I found quite inspiring with the way he intermingled synths and acoustic guitar, might want to check his song out too smile https://weeklybeats.com/zabutom/music/difficult

Also there's an album I really love by Kayo Dot called Plastic House on Base of Sky (the song Magnetism in particular) which really nails that blade runner vibe and mixes it with prog rock.

Thank you! I was also really happy with the way that key change turned out haha. I was afraid it was jarring at first but it sounds smooth enough

This track is awesome, pretty amazing for a first attempt at the genre.

Not sure about the whole vaporwave thing but this has some classic 80's type tones in it for sure!  Guitar is a great addition.
