Returning to the Stars

By ViridianLoom on December 29, 2024 11:58 pm

I dipped out back towards the beginning of Q4 (Week 40). I realized today that it was the final week, so I scrounged together a song in the last 4 hours so I can jump back in at the last second, haha. This tune is alright, kind of a nice vibe but admittedly has too many guitar solos to drag it out longer. I need to think of some more creative ways to add substance to a song.

Congrats everyone for completing 2024! I know its stressful (or else I wouldn't have dipped out) but it's incredibly rewarding to reflect back on the songs you've written and everything you've learned. I had a few friends participate this year and it's been really cool to see how they've all grown. It was also really cool to do some collabs this year and see a bunch of people collabing. And although it tapered off earlier in the year, it was cool to see some faces in WeeklyMeets. All of you are awesome and I appreciate you greatly. I genuinely wouldn't have gotten to where I am (musically) without ya'lls support.

By the way, last time I'll be shilling my own shit, but I did end up completing my album titled "Immerens" under Venaht. Some of you who have frequented my song descriptions this year might know it as "The purple album" haha. I'm currently working on the "Gold" album, as well as a VGM album. You can find all my links here (It's on streaming services) https://linktr.ee/venaht, but I'll also post a youtube video of the full album if you're interested.

Anywho, I feel like a huge weight is off my shoulders with that album. I really wanted to go for a dark dreamy atmospheric vibe inspired by a variety of things but primarily dark/etherealwave goth music and I think I did it. I tried promoting it and sending it out to some bloggers but, given that it's the holidays, who knows if it'll ever get covered. Oh well. I'm going to pursue another goal I've been wanting to do for a while for this upcoming year: Writing. As in, writing stories. I used to do it a lot when I was a teenager. So I'm going to work on a novel for 2025 but who knows if it'll get done during that time.

More than alright - this is gorgeous! Might be one of my favorites from the year, and how many hits you've put out (not to mention a truly cool album!), that's saying something. wink

If you're worried about lack of substance, I actually really don't think that's a problem here. To my ears, you're switching up sonic density and melodic ideas along the way, but it's all in service of (and consistent with) that starting chord progression, which is just beautifully rendered. It results in a track that's ongoing but never tedious. (Kind of like "Ideal and the Real" from Persona 5 Royal, which has that same kind of energy in a very different way.)

Seriously stellar work this year. Can't wait to hear your latest in the new year and beyond. In the meantime, hope you get a chance for a breather, and congrats on a great 2024! big_smile

A fantastic calm outro for the year. And 7/8, huh? Ambitious with 4 hours to spare! And a great result in such a short time. I wouldn't worry about solos being "filler". Melodies are the content of music, jazz is all about that stuff: ensemble theme / buncha solos / ensemble theme. Et voila. You can make music without clear melodies, when we're going into soundtrack or techno or ambient territory. Or you could add vocals, in which case the same melody repeated with different lyrics (or often even the same lyrics) doesn't sound repetitive to the listener.

But you know all that. All I'm saying is there's nothing wrong with the track you uploaded. Glad to see you back with a worthy sendoff to WB24. Sorry I never got to work on the stems you sent me. Life got in the way.

In any case, hope 2025 treats you well! Cheers!

Sir, I am always fascinated by your harmonies, chordchanges, skills , sounddesign, mixing and everything. It was a pleasure to have one more track of yours this year here on weeklybeats. Good to know where to find your other music in the www.
Have a good year 2025.

It was noteworthy exchanging notes with you this year, and on that note I wish you enjoyment on your next notebook.

If you find time for a collaboration, don’t want to pull you away from your writing, I think you have the closest musical style to me especially when you go emotionally thick metal, and I would love to push my skills working with you.

Great 2024!
