Other Worlds

By ViridianLoom on February 27, 2022 11:38 pm

I started this week off with one song idea that I wanted to develop throughout the week but then I got sick and other stuff went down so I opted to just throw something together today. Wanted to keep it as simple as possible while also not phoning it in, so I followed this logic:

1. Simple chord progression that loops roughly 8 times
2. Try to add a few different layers incrementally
3. Some kind of melody or melodic noodling that's grounded to the chord progression
4. Try to set it up so it loops decently

Worked out pretty decent for a little tune. While you won't hear it loop here since I'm just posting up the full piece, I tried to remove elements of the music incrementally so that when it loops it doesn't feel like it abruptly just went back to the beginning. I didn't get a chance to listen to it beyond my bedroom, so I'm hoping there's not any major bass farts or anything because I tried to maximize its volume while keeping it nice and bassy + plenty of brightness in the high end. (listening to it now that it's uploaded, the total irony of this statement is that it's the quietest sounding mix I've done all year lol)

Ok now that this is done, time to go back to playing Elden Ring wink

Glad you made it happen, despite the struggle of a week. Hope all is well.

I feel like you really nailed the dynamics on the hi-hats in this beat. they sound very human and groove to the song really nicely. When this song ends it makes me sad. It's so nice I want it to continue. The leads sound melodically almost oriental. Very pleasing.

Good job.

Jolly stuff. heart Love it. Hope Elden Ring treats you well!

lovely chords and melody lines. well done. get well soon.

I love the melodic narration of the piano, I feel entirely immersed in this sonic story!

The explanation on how you worked on the track was very interesting. There is nothing wrong with the mix as far as I can tell. I like the buildup, evolution of the track. Nice short one.

This tune was just instantly intriguing. The chords and melody are catchy but just odd enough to keep one off balance. Fav!

Really enjoyed this, and found your process really interesting!

bobbing my head and then got upset when i saw how short this is

this is a BANGER of a beat

really interesting how this still has the VL magic: awesome solo riff and HEAVY beat - so this is still kinda metal despite not being metal

I also wish this was longer. That beat has some nice chonk!

Delightful (and funky!)

So I picked a song from your wb based on interesting title and I like it a lot, quite different in mood and sound but still has an interesting rhythm sense. and the synth melody meanders nicely through the sonic spectrum!

I like that it's uplifting and kind of determined, so instead of being like "ooh other worlds are scary" it's like "yea! let's go check those other worlds out they are probably fun as heck!"

Actually, kind of funny because that just reminded me that at the time I wrote this I had just finished playing a game called Omori and it's OST was a huge influence, but that part about "Other worlds are scary" is interesting because the game itself is billed as a Psychological Horror game. So when I first started playing it, I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. But the game itself is actually like 80/90% fun little cute adventures with your childhood friends in a fantasy world , one location in particular is just called "Otherworld" and it's like a sci-fi amusement park.

Anyways, the other shoe eventually drops and a mind boggling revelation is unveiled and the game gets really really dark. But THIS song is just focused on the good times, haha.

Maybe I'll revisit it and make it longer someday! I would love to compose music for a video game eventually so maybe this could be a candidate for something like that.

Sweet! I might check out that game smile
