Dream Interrupted

I set out with the goal of making a goth rock track this week because I've been listening to a lot of Lycia. Their style is actually more slow and broody than this, but when I was researching the aesthetics of goth rock in preparation for this track I found out that root of goth music comes from the punk/post-punk era. I had also noticed with some bands that the drum track is either a drum machine or it's a pretty bread and butter rock beat. So to make things easier on myself this week I just used some of the canned beats that addictive drummer offers so I could focus on those goth rock guitar and bass tones. This ended up being way, way, way more upbeat and "cheery" than I planned but I'm pretty happy with the general result. My chorus and my prog section (of course there's a prog section) pulled away from the goth aesthetic but it is what it is.

Fun fact: The name is a little bit of a play on words, as in the Dream being referenced is the Dream from Sandman. Dream is a pretty gothy looking dude so I thought it was appropriate.

This is immediately cool! Love how the intro just comes in swinging hard. Everything about this one is awesome. That bass line is sick and I love the guitar riff. Super catchy and has a little melody built in which is super nice. The heavy part is super satisfying when it drops. I really liked this track. It was a lot of fun to listen to!

Always down for a good goth rock track - and I'm loving your spin on the genre here. Another instant classic! big_smile

Dang, my dude does research before he writes a song! Your lead tone and style in here to me really invokes thoughts of The Cure, so I guess Mission accomplished if you count them as goth. This is so peppy, yet still uncertain. Really nice feel to it. Nice movement on the bass. The prog section is killer!!!

And thus, dream goth as a genre was born. It's really nice.

Ha good synchronicity! I just started watching Sandman yesterday. His design is definitely full on gothic! The drums are spot on. The layers of guitars are just perfect and you bring your advanced bass groove on top of it.

yes

Really partial to this, been listening to The Cure a few weeks ago, really love this kinda vibe, reminds me of childhood, feels like a comfortable place somehow. 1:35 type music is my kinda vibe...

Seriously, heart
