Alter Ego

As the weeks have passed, I've started to become more tolerable of developing a song idea that doesn't really speak to me in any meaningful capacity. It used to frustrate and stress me out since I wanted to connect with the song. It's not always the case but it seems like with increasing regularity I've been able to take something dull and turn it into a concept that takes me by surprise. With this song, I honestly don't even remember what I was going for at first but it certainly wasn't a Killer7 inspired track with a swing feel. I also don't really know what genre to classify this as. Noir Pop because it's kind of catchy and about psychosis and murder?
Also, this one is girlfriend approved which I think is a pretty good indicator of doneness.
As for life, I've been pretty busy at work training my replacement and getting my affairs in order, so to speak. I had a lot of responsibilities and now I have to designate them. As a result, I've been pretty lax about listening to people's songs this last week so sorry about that. I'll try to double back and listen to your tracks when I'm not exhausted. I anticipate that will probably be the same when I start the new job too, so sorry in advance.

Liminal spaces
Trapped in linear forward pace
Finger on the trigger
Pulling my strings
Leading me along these jigsaw halls
In my fractured state of mind
Breathing, Seeing
Seeded tree
Haunting me
Alter Ego
In my skull
Behind the basement door
Alter ego
In the dark hotel corridor
Believe you me, this mystery
Ghostly fragments within our psyche
Syringe of green
Guiding me
A tight spot, wouldn't you agree?
Alter Ego
In my skull
Behind the basement door
Alter ego
In the dark hotel corridor

For those who haven't heard of it before, Killer7 is friggin' weird, as evidenced by this gif from the game of a dude in a gimp suit and an naked dude hanging from the ceiling. You control the members of a group of assassins called the killer7, all of which are actually just split personalities of an elderly man named Harman Smith.
The aforementioned guy in the pink gimp suit is a dude named Iwazaru who's role is to guide the assassins on their missions. He's also just a ghostly figment of their psyche. He's not the only one, The killer7 also see the ghosts of all their past victims as well, and when the player chooses to speak to them they speak in this freaky distorted, whispered, unintelligible language that is honestly pretty unnerving. As for the plot of this game, I don't even know how to give a brief summary of it. It has to do with rising tensions between the US and Japan in an alternate-timeline where there's world peace but a terrorist organization called Heaven's Smiles are stoking the flames. Also the Heaven's Smile members look like this.
But there's a lot more to it than that, and it's just honestly bizarre and hard to keep track of.
Oh, and barring the crazy as plot of this game, it's an on-rails shooter. You only move forwards and backwards down hallways (btw this game made great use of liminal spaces before they were even a popular thing on the internet) and then you occasionally stop to switch into a first person view so you can gun down enemies. There's also an adventure/puzzle solving aspect to the game where you utilize the various abilities of the killer7 to progress through levels. There is no game like it and even if it doesn't sound like your cup of tea it's probably worth experiencing anyways.
Oh and the part about the "Behind the Basement Door" in my lyrics has to do with a recurring scene where there's someone continuously screaming from the basement of the Killer7's headquarters. Also pretty unnerving. Man, I love this game, haha.
