Play Dates and Love Letters

By Tweaklab on April 7, 2024 11:32 pm

This week I wrote a bunch of chiptune for my friend's Play.Date game.

I dug a bunch of the riffs/melodies so much I turned them into a weeklybeat!

Romantic and optimistic indeed. Sounds great!

I just got a Playdate myself! You mixed chiptune with some otherworldly wide stereo pads and Asian arps. I understand that's the "reworked" part? Or is that pad and arp also in the game? Those hi-fi sounds drowning in reverb remind me of early Aphex Twin.

By the way, how does one compose music for the Playdate?

Hey! smile

The WeeklyBeat version of the track has none of the Play.Date elements - it is strictly chiptune (very much like LSDJ sound wise.)

It's all done via a web interface (Pulp) and the cool part is, I was able to hand over a single file to my friend containing all of my music tracks and he could just import that file into the game project. The same goes for the Sound FX I made, too!

I'm actually going to embed a YouTube video into this original post showing the original stuff I made for the Play.Date game (and possibly some gameplay!)
