I dig it. Nice palette of sounds that comes together nicely.

Ooooh that bass heart

this thang GROOVES. looove the pads you've got backing up the track

I like it, nice cohesive sound palette

So delicious and boomy! Did you squeeze this acidy tune through hardware, DAW or both?

goovy, 5/4 + 4/4 just yummy, got myself shaking my head

Yes! This is a great way to start the year. This mooooves and groooves!

This is so beautifully smooth big_smile

Uh! so funky it's in full control of my pelvic-thrust smile

Didnt't know 9/8ths signature (or whatever it is) could groove like that but here we are!

I was really getting into that bass groove.  I definitely wouldn't have minded if it kept going a bit longer.  Great sounds in this.

if this is week 1, I really looking forward to seeing what you release for the rest of the year.

That bass is wonderful.

10 dubloner for takt og toner!

Definitely shot me 200 years into the future. Full, robust and wide sound.

smooth, crunchy and otherwordly

Sweet groove, love the vocoder vox! Nice kick and thicc bass too, great stuff!

This had me nodding along instantly. Very nice!

I am fav'ing this right away.

I see this place is not going to do my bass addiction any favors. Wife's on the phone w/ mom crying like "he's jamming it for the 4th time..."

Oooh.. Robots are here! Nice tune. Whistle in the background sounds good.

yes, this rules! so expressive and unexpected. love the odd time signatures, especially in genres where they aren't so common!

This track could be in the next Hotline Miami, it's pretty f'in sweet.

This is smooth. That bass line, but especially the vocoder lines - the way you use it similar to a pad is very interesting. I love that.

I liked this very much. Good job.

Really love those vocals, really tie the whole thing together

That is a f****** GROOVE!

Nice vocodes!

Loving the thickness of that bassline.  With the vocoder and drums it totally fills the stereo field so nice.  Nice work!

this sounds like what i imagine drinking 2222 Gatorade tastes like

as in: good

Oh shit, this is really good! heart

Really dig the groove in 9/8  Gives it a great off kilter vibe.

Thank you very much – much appreciated. I tried to do my best on this one, so I’m really glad you liked it…

…I won’t have the temporal recourses to put this much effort into most weeks. When I do, I’ll include the word “Theme” in the title. The rest of the weeks will be somewhat more jammy.

Let’s make it happen tongue

Thanks, but wait, there’s only five letters in the word “funky” tongue

*sub-bass business*

I was a bit in doubt whether I should go as low as A0 (27,5 Hz) since many home systems can’t go that low, but I thought that the acid bass line will work by itself if the sub the octave don’t get through.

Your story put a large smile to my face. Thanks for sharing. For those who enjoy it, it’s the most harmless addiction though – does not even hurt the hearing sense.

*acidic technique*

ScanianWolf wrote:

(…) Did you squeeze this acidy tune through hardware, DAW or both?

Both, and any 303-clone capable of receiving midi to the notes and parameters should do the trick. I played the notes and tweaks at about 1/7 speed, so some of the cutoff tweaks approach the lower end of the FM specter when sped up. I used the Devastor 2 to overdrive and cut away the bass below 108 Hz to give room to the kicks and sub. Recorded to tape at a little bit too high volume for slight saturation.

*metre*

Gunda wrote:

I recorded everything at about 1/7 speed where the 16th notes felt like quarter notes, so then it felt like playing 9 bars of 4/4. Sped-up that makes 9 units of something (8th notes or quarter notes). Initially, when I just had made the drums and bass, it had a somewhat boring feel of 4/4 + 1/8, and I was about to abandon the project. Then I realized that any meter divisible by 3 can contain a string of dotted 8th notes fitting in each bar – and strings of dotted 8th notes is my favorite rhythm. I then tried to put modulation of the resonance of the 303s and the rhythm of the vocals to this rhythm:

||_ _ X _ _ X _ _ X _ _ X _ _ X _ _ X || (18/16)

This made it both more complex and more comprehensible.

*padded furniture*

strolts wrote:

(…) looove the pads you've got backing up the track

I made the pad arrangement as a track of its own and added it to the mix by using the brilliant Carve EQ Ducker from Ochen K. This let it only slip through cracks in the frequency specter of the other parts, and thus I can keep it ultra-low gain in the mix, and it will still cut through. Going to explore this carving tool a lot this year.

*stereophonics*

Tone Matrix wrote:

eoe.grooving wrote:

Full, robust and wide sound.

This was achieved by recording most of the parts (both melodies and tweaks) twice and panning each one hard right and left (anything towards the middle will make phase problems). This technique is used a lot in electric music and a bit in acoustic too, but I haven’t heard it much in electronic production. The ability to recorded the midi at a slowed-down rate (I used a factor of about 7) makes this even more effective though, as it would have been to pronounced in real-time (at least with my playing).

*økonomisk*

The project time was so crazy on this that I wasn’t able to make more bars within the time limit. A rewind could solve it tongue
