Taurin's Lament

By Tone Matrix on November 6, 2022 4:42 pm

Short on time I thought I would just do a simple 2 chord ambient thing with the Yamaha SY22 Full String patch.  I've prob had story time about this keyboard before but the SY22 has that particular string patch that Moby uses so often on his ambient tracks and even some of the hits.  I found it used pretty cheap back on ebay way back and the keybed itself was in bad shape but thankfully the tone generator works just fine.  This patch is prob my fav patch to just play slow chords to when I'm not feeling well.  The more you double up on the notes the more soothing it feels (at least on its own).
I had been humming the theme sorta earlier and thought I should try using some vocal samples if I could.
I guess the soothing inspired a bit more as I added in some stuff from Spitfire Labs' Gaelic Voices and Micah's Choir.
Other than my affinity for Dminor I seem to have clung to the Cmajor to C#major chord relationship.  Mostly cuz it's just an easy half step up on the keys.
Thank you for reading and listening.  I hope you are well and enjoying your season change where ever you may be (cuz we def don't have em down here!)

So beautiful, as if it regally presides over mystical winds heart

ohhhh this is so tight.  I can kind of hear the Moby, but this is better than Moby, no offense Moby.

Moby: *cries, deletes WB account*

the secret ticking clock really adds drama!

heavenly beautiful. divine music.

Love the subtle percussion in this track.  Adds a gentle motion to the string pad and the vocals bring that mystical quality.  Lovely stuff indeed.

I just read somewhere recently that the key of D minor is the saddest of all keys.  Or perhaps the saddest of all chords.  Either way, perhaps that explains your affinity for it.  Regardless this is an emotive track.  I can see why you like that string patch and the vocals add an extra something something that hits perfectly.

There is sadness, nostalgia, solemnity in this track. The subdued percussion and bass line is a nice texture addition. The vocal sample is really perfect. Before I arrived to that section of the track, I was already reminded of the Dune movie and the general vibe that was emerging from it. The vocal anchored that even more strongly.

Actually been listening to a lot of old moby tunes lately, the synth has such a nice warm tempered sound, very enjoyable, love Labs, need to check out the new pack (bit of an Enigma vibe, also been listening to old Enigma stuff recently).  I now know what you mean about the seasons, every day in Florida was the same temperature, huge swings here in Edmonton, last week got up +16 degrees Celsius, tonight temperature dropping to -25 degrees Celsius.

This takes me away, wraps up calming prospects of a journey ahead. Love the voice. The rich string bed is wonderful, loved hearing the story about that. Happy season change! I'm feeling up in the Pacific North West, with change there's always some, maybe mourning for what was before, even though we know it will be back. Your music can be calming during any transition!

This song is basically all emotions in one go, it's so good

Thanks everyone for taking the time fer a listen.  It really means a lot especially when things are feeling a bit down in the noggin.  Thank you smile

Amazing tone from the SY22.  Complete and full. The vocalizations towards the end really elevate the composition.  I'm trying to learn to more with less and this is really inspirational.  You have lots of perfect little touches and elements but nothing is competing against the main theme. Hard to do!
