I decided to revisit an old string sample I recorded a few years back but never put into a full finished track.  Back when Moby had PLAY and all his other mellow instrumental tracks out I was obsessed with that one string sound he used from the Yamaha SY22.  So naturally I bought one on eBay but unfortunately haven't used it as much as I'd hoped since the keys are kind of jagged and don't respond well.  I guess that's a future project, to sample a bunch more chords tongue  I'm also really struggling to come up with stuff that feels new lately.  Hopefully I'll turn this stagnant feeling around before week 40? tongue  I also need to catch up on everyone else's tracks, so I apologize about being behind on that.  Thanks for listening smile

I like the beat on this one... and was kind of surprised when it stutter stopped out.  Cool effect.  The synth lines sound nice and uplifting.

Quite Mobyoid. Loved the stutter transition. We have a winner!

That beat is awesome! Especially before it stops in the fourth quarter.
The stutters are real cool also they where mentioned before the first one caught me really by suprise. Seems the next ones are a bit smoother...
I think this glitched beat is definitly something new...

Piano, strings, harpsichord-esque synth, organ... lovely keys everywhere!! I can understand the obsession with that particular string patch, it sounds really good! you did it justice in this great track big_smile

Great beat and that synth sound is really sweet sounding! Lovely track!

Ahh those strings. I do have a Yamaha TG33 (the SY22 desktop cousin) though I never "found" those strings. Maybe one day I should reload the factory presets smile

Indeed very Moby-esque ... and I also love those stutters smile

I think the man would approve. MOBY IS LOVE

I was also a big fan of moby's PLAY, definitely has the moby vibe with those strings, digging the crunchy beats

It's very lovely. I may not have listened to enough Moby, but it sounds like it's not quite it. It could be the piano/drum combo is off somehow.

In the off chance there's a SY archive online or whatnot, the patch is called FULL STRING.  I would assume the TG can probably come pretty close to recreating it.  Though I have no clue how it was made smile  I'm just the preset_junkie tongue

Oh, yes it is indeed! I've got the whole sysex files and such but I haven't checked them out. The SY22 and the TG33 are fairly identical soundwise, and fully compatible.

About the presets: nothing wrong with them in my book, though I hardly ever use any, because I tend to forget where they're placed and feel silly not being able to find a sound.

I usually erase any preloaded content from my unit, so more motive to work on my own presets. Even so, it's been just 3 or 4 years that, for efficiency reasons, I started storing my own presets. Back in the 2000-2010 era, I would never ever save any presets and start everytime from scratch, in order to get familiar with my gear... like everything could be built from a TR606 bass drum smile.
