Maudlin Lane

Howdy!  How are you?  Not much motivation until the end of the week when the chord progression finally clicked.  So it kinda sounds like a karaoke song in the beginning.  The piano solo was a happy lil accident that I tripped over on the first take.  Thanks to Ableton's Capture thingy I was able to salvage the melody.  The mix is a puddle of mud unfortunately.  The muddiness doesn't sound so evident when I'm editing in Ableton but when I listen to the final mix I tend to hear it all.  Or maybe I'm wrong and I just need root canal of the ears?  Let me know if the bass is too mushy.  I tried turning it down but yeah..  Thanks for listening, hope to see you next week!

The intro gives me massive Celeste vibes, piano sounds really nice and I don't mind the "muddy" sound, lo-fi dreamy vibes are in!

Nice man, love the vibe on this one.  The grain delay-y thing that the beginning is pretty awesome.  Really digging this chord progression too, I need to remember to be more adventurous like this!

I can hear a lot of stuff on headphones.  synth drone, piano chords, filtered drum beat, the guitar delay, sub bass - they all come through.  the piano has a low middle tone to it that blends in with the bass, but it doesn't come across as mud, it comes across as "old timey piano" aesthetic.  so, in terms of mixing, i can hear everything and the main elements are the piano and the beat with the low bass supporting everything, and the delay fx on the outer edges.

THAT'S JUST ME!

Sounds good to me.  Digging the peaceful relaxing vibe of this.

Really pretty. Sounds good to me, too. smile

I think because I read the description I’m hearing a bit of a muddy mix, but not in a bad way, gives a nostalgic feel and the drums sound like they are coming from another room, not sure if that was the intent but I like it.

The mix is working well, no complains. The piano is standing out so beautifully from the delayed background. this is a very tasteful composition.

The most relaxing puddle of mud there is

The image is beautiful. And the track has this haunting beauty to it, a sepia nostalgia. Such beautiful piano melodies, and real nice use of the strings in the background. The mix is really nice, I don't think it sounds muddy, and it suits this piece perfectly.

I'm not getting the muddiness you're experiencing. Ear fatigue is real, too. I really enjoyed this one.

Lovely melody and progression. Love the drum sound. No complaints on mix here either. It has that kinds of haze that seems intentional

Thanks everyone for the vote of confidence in the mud category.  I think I def need to exercise better judgement with ear fatigue and take breaks in between the mixing stage.  After awhile everything sounds the same smile  Thanks again so much for your comments and listening I really appreciate it.

Don't find it particularly muddy. Indeed, if you've told me you were going for an actual eighties movie atmosphere, and I don't mean the yet-cool-but-highly-unrealistic outrun/synthwave vibe, but actual 80s new age/electronic records like Shadowfax or some of the Pat Metheny stuff... I think you nailed the sound.

To me, it fits the feeling perfectly. Nothing wrong with the synthy stuff, it's just a different feeling.

Cool track. Don't mind the mix in the slightest, that's my vote.
