If I Could Fix Myself

By Tone Matrix on April 7, 2024 4:06 pm

It's funny when the year was brand new I was full of energy and ideas for what I hoped were going to be these big epic beat driven tracks.  I enticed myself with upgrades and more than enough new electronic pew pew presets that I still haven't sorted.  Yet the few times a week I'm actually coaxing myself to sit at the keyboard all I'm wanting to hear is my piano in a nice room/hall/unspecified black hole.  Usually hoping I at least find a chunks worth of a track in a sloppy improvised jam slosh.  While part of me wishes I was making some fleshed out developed big beat synth arpy schtuff I'm happy I at least got somefin with my piano.   Tanks for readin my ramble, listenin to my music and commenting i appreciate yew heart smile  noodle powah! *double bracelet clink 80s cartoon effect star wipe*

I'm a sucker for solo piano and this is just a great example of that. Really nice work.

This goes hard. Great job and great touch on the keys.

I'm a big fan of these solo piano pieces of yours. I think you are really good at communicating an emotion or feeling through your different melodic ideas. This one in particular has a really nice arc to it where I can definitely feel the piece building to a large statement in the middle before you conclude with those really nice low bass notes. Nice work!

Lovely black and white cinematic schtuff. Love it.

Yeah, nothing wrong with good-sounding solo piano. It's gentle, it's dynamic, it ebbs and flows organically. If you want to do something else but don't have the time, maybe you can do it across multiple weeks. Not every track needs to start during the week you finish it. In my case a few tracks spanned multiple weeks when they were more laborious than what I could pull off.

But again, nothing wrong with peaceful piano noodling when it's executed well, as is the case here!

This piece is inspiring me more than you know.  All I do are solo piano pieces, and I feel like many of mine lack the spacious clarity and simple elegance you have expressed here. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful and timeless piano solo.

Glad you follow your instincts (and don't fight it). There's healing here and all that other junk can just wait... Wait patiently for the piano to finish playing... gently and softly... without a metronome. Thank you for making this and sharing it with us.

i listened to this 4 or 5 times in a row. thank you, Tone Tone Tone Matrix heart

100%, can relate.  But also, selfishly, I'm lovin' it.  Your compositions are so lovely.  And this one in particular doesn't read as a noodle, this feels like you're telling a story, and not even a rambly one... like a well worn tale, told to a genuinely interested bartender at a quite little gin joint, with only the regulars around.  A story about a real life, filled with ups and downs... maybe more downs than ups, that's sad on it's face, but if you turn it around and really look at it closely is quietly beautiful. Wonderful track.

The noodles are always great and you can really only go with what you're feeling.  Also there's a lot more Weekly Beats to go this year.  Plenty of time to mix in a few beat driven tracks if you get the itch to do so.

Hey, as long as you're creating.  This one is great.

This is just beautiful heart I'm a huge sucker for warm lone pianos, so even if you just keep on making more stuff in this vein until the end of the year, I'm always gonna come back for more.

Can’t force anything, just got to do what comes out, lucky for us we get to enjoy these reflective piano pieces and the epic big beat jams every once in awhile.

A breath of calm and contemplation. Lovely composition / noodle / magic improv creation as always. I can relate about starting off the year with so much motivation then feeling it fade a little. Ok to go to the comfortable places and keep creating what makes us feel good. Yes to noodle powah!

If you feel like only playing a simple piano and going with it, then this is exactly what you should do. I always enjoy your tracks, keep it up. How do you approach these tracks? Do you decide movements and chord progression and then improv? Or is it all improv?
Take it easy, go with the flow, enjoy the moment, enjoy the tracks, watch a good movie, get a good diner, laugh with friends! And please continue posting your wonderful tracks!

i love the flow of this track - such beautiful movement

Don't be so hard on yourself, you've found the path of least resistance and it's a very, very beautiful path you're on.

soul crushing title

beautiful, going to download and listen on loop

This is beautiful, so talented. Thank you for sharing!

I love these piano pieces you've been doing. And I totally get where you're coming from. I set up a bunch of expectations for myself and then I have bummer weeks when I feel like I'm not meeting em. At least you're embracing the change in direction and enjoying it smile There's always more time in the year for the other stuff.

I keep coming back to listen to this.  It's such a warm piano and so soothing on the soul.  It truly does express a story that resonates the bittersweet highs and lows of life.  Very nicely played and expressed here.
