For Interstellar Shores

By Tone Matrix on September 29, 2024 2:00 pm

hi there.
another stargazin m00dle this week.
i've been in a weird funk as of late but honestly just being able to focus on the one instrument and ambience has been a bit of personal physical/mental therapy for me.
the ambiance was recorded in the backyard on thursday as Hurricane Helene was making it's way towards the shore.  Miami wasn't in the direct path thankfully so it was just a lot of wind and sideways rain.  This was after the rain storms passed.  There's always those few hours before/after a storm when the breeze still hits as if you're living right by the beach.  I was preparing the backyard buddies' (adopted_kitties of Blondie & Fluff) dinner.  Hence in between the rustling of the Palm Fronds you can hear Blondie acknowledging the food going into his dish.  Fluff silent meows (mouth opens no sound).  I left the phone recording on the table outside so the wind gets in the mic a few times.  Kinda gave the intro a turntable start with the noise.  Formula mostly for these past 6 weeks has been Electric Piano, something outside recorded and mild pitch drift immersed in Valhalla Supermassive 'Stardust'.  Staying in space until the mess down here gets settled (which might be awhhhhile)  Thanks for listening and stopping by.  Hope you are well. May inspiration guide us all this week. heart

Really beautiful and tranquil. The ambient, almost white noise really does lend something to the mood, and those low tones on the e-piano just warm my chest a little in the nicest possible way. Really wonderful.

These noodles paired with ambience have been a really nice series of tracks.  Certainly calming and soothing, which is something I think we could all use more of.

You achieved perfection with that rhodesy tone. There's a tiny bit of vibrato there, love that. The noodle is great, too.

A small suggestion: for a huge stereo feel, take the sea sample and pan it hard left. Then copy it, offset it by a minute, and pan it hard right. That will make a backdrop that sounds like it embraces the central sound.

a sonic hug from the Wizard. just what i needed to start my day. hope you can weather the storms ok. thank you for your music heart

I feel like I've said this way too many times, but since you keep making these, I'll keep saying it: I reeeeally like these gloomy and chill noodles. Please keep bringing them my way and I'll continue to eat them all up. Great work, feels super introspective.

I'm struck by two things listening to this.  Firstly how much the music makes me think of the score for The Last of Us games that Gustavo Santaolalla wrote and secondly that you used a category 4 hurricane as the tracks ambience...can't imagine too many people can say they've done that! In a lot of ways that ambient track moves between sounding like rain and hiss of a dirty record, it's wonderful.

Good to know Helene did not blow you away. Good to hear nothing about migraines and heart issues. Nice to witness the cats having food in the rain. I am not sure, if I hear a wow and fluttering, or I am passing out by this relaxing moodle. Nicely done.

Hope the hurricane didn't hit you too hard and that your doing well. This is a soothing piece. Some lovely chords in this. It's an interesting contrast between the destructiveness of the storm in the background vs. the calmness of the electric piano.

I hope all is well, or at least as well as can be expected.  I'm really loving you tracks from the past few weeks.  The mix of the e-piano and the field recordings is just like daydreams in a bottle.  Thank you so much sharing them.

had to come back for more. i think this will be where i stop when i need grounding and to catch my breath.

The ambient recordings paired with your most excellent piano noodles are a delight. Hope you can shake the funk you're in.

Glad you weathered the storm ok, and the new backyard buddies too! This is very calming indeed like floating in space. I like the idea of floating away until things settle down here. This is good music for that. I like the static windy ambience. The piano sounds great with the slight drift, warm and rich. I hope your week is good and filled with inspiration too!

i was trying to describe sideways rain to josh when driving in hurricanes in florida... he's never been in a hurricane...  it's kinda like driving in a blizzard up here but that looks more like driving in the millinium falcon...
glad to hear you are safe - it's so odd how this one hit...

this piece is soooooo gorgeous - we got out flu/covid vax yesterday and i'm struggling to rest and this is really restorative vibes - what is the electric piano sound you are using & reverb? so lush

& hi kitty friends & palm trees - i miss you palm trees

Really like the dreamy Rhodes and the rain is a perfect backdrop for this. I hope you are doing well after the storm.

Yessss love me some stargazin noodles. The ambient sounds are amazing and I appreciate how your playing shares the spotlight with the wind/rain. Hope your funk subsides, kudos for making such tasty music despite this smile

Man this formula is working so well, happy to hear more like this, so relaxing and just the right amount of ambience from the backyard recordings.  Glad to hear things are safe in your area, my friend lives north of Tampa Bay, he was evacuated and came back to 5 feet of water in his basement, hopefully this next hurricane dies down before reaching Florida in a couple days.

The slow detuned notes really work well here
