False Dawn

By Tone Matrix on September 1, 2024 5:16 pm

"Oh hello there.  I saved ya a spot right here.  Don't worry, the rain finally stopped.  Help yourself to some **insert_warm_beverage**.  Or mayhaps a hammock to collapse upon?"

The migraine thankfully left.  Unfortunately it was promptly replaced by an annoying head cold this week.
I put off working on anything pretty much til Saturday night because my sinuses were not happy with me being upright.  I finally caved and took some cold meds that ended up blasting me off into the cosmos.  Physically oh it got rid of the pressure in my head but woah did I go on an adventure late saturday night.  Also I may have added an extra french press worth of cawfee to my day at some point.  Shh what afib... **finger_to_mouf**

With my energized ears I heard a cricket outside my window.  I swore it was in sync with my ceiling fan. So I pointed my phone at da window to record the lil noise maker and instead got a whole lot more than I anticipated.  At some point a plane, motorcycle, helicopter, cat, dishwasher door and parents in the distance made it onto the recording. I really wanted the cricket and outside ambience so I did my best to disguise the other sounds.  But I also secretly liked the spikes they added to the background.

I tried to sleep at a decent time and instead woke up about an hour later to the sound of rain.  When that turned into a mini monsoon of a thunderstorm I decided to get up and record that as well.  That got me a few thunderclaps to roll and reverse in and out of the track. Kinda interesting how thunder backwards with some filtage sounds like wind. **shrugz**  Also some rain drip dropping and finally a bird or two when the sun appeared to say heroh...  Also I've been watching Sagan's Cosmos all week.  As I was snoodling I was sorta pretending to be outside laying on the grass staring up at the stars. Pretend is def the keyword as there's so much light pollution out here you really can't see much.  Although I did see the space station mosey on by a few times.  I sort of changed the channel with the chord progression early on.  80s space graphics will do that to ya. So between the cold meds and the show my head has been iiiiiin da clouds tongue Thanks for listening, I am going to promptly pass out now.  heart

This had a really great end-of-day-lying-in-a-hammock vibe to it ... heavily sedated on cold medicine or not! I liked the reversed thunder when it came in. Really nice playing too ... actually this is the main thing I came here to say lol!

It has a dreamy and nostalgic feel to it and the ambient outside noises add some nice mood to the piece.  It also manages to capture that feeling of being the only one up when it feels like the whole world is asleep.

This is such a lovely piece.  So cozy and peaceful.  I love the tone on the e-piano, and it sooo nicely suits the softness of the overall piece.  Very nicely done.  I really enjoy all the field recordings to create ambiance.  It really does sound so nice, just quite little lullaby.

Nice, very very nice. I enjoyed your journal-like entry too and it really enhanced my enjoyment of the track trying to pick out all the little sounds.

The outside recordings add a lot of interesting ambience. Finally found the cricket and all the other things you were announcing. What a night. The epiano has a great warm sound and was played in a narcotic mood.
Loved the whole story of this too. Good week and get well soon.

Now, as it is nighttime and quiet, I am glad to have been listening to your song again. I was frequently disturbed the first time.
I could climb deeper into the scenery now and was paralyzed carried away by the keys. Thanks

I closed my eyes while listening, and I felt rejuvenated!

i adore this song and recording. felt like i was there with you, listening to the cricket and the storm while you quietly played. the reset my brain needed today.
hope you get some rest and feel better!

I mean.... it's just the best sound right? Those mellow keys? A little rain and thunder in the background? Beautiful and relaxing. A little somber. Just a tiny, precious moment of a mood... wonderful.

Love how you kept adding the field recordings to this from your window, those keys are so blissful, great job recording and mixing the ambience into the track, the pace and patience with the sounds is really appreciated.

I'll certainly be returning to this track when I need a moment of calm, was really lovely.  The use of the recordings and sound design grounded (for lack of a better word) the track, as I could imagine floating away on this one.

I've been watching Sagan's Cosmos all week

I can hear the vague vangelisque "Heaven & Hell" inspiration with your Rhodes choice. This is truly lovely and the additional field recording aspect is awesome. Puts the music in a place and time. Wonderful, great job.

And sorry to hear about your health issues, I hope they pass soon.

This feels so deeply infused with feeling and emotion. It's quiet, sparing and still super moving. Tremendous job.

Amazing work capturing a mood.

closed my eyes and let this piece take me away.

Golly. This is just great stuff. The field recordings add such substance to it and make it so peaceful and evocative.

THE SOUND OF THE RHODES. Enough said. Favoring this track. You capture the feeling of looking at the stars. Or maybe i am watching a black and white movie about someone looking at the stars. Thank you for sharing this perfect track. Favoring it.

Velvety goodness and delicious ambient flavors throughout. That first pristine chord followed by the lower ep "strums" and then jazzy chime walks.  My gosh - just so lovely. I'm sitting outside while listening to this, so the background candy is perfect. This will get several listens, and then a few more. smile

The crickets are the cozy cherry on top for me smile This is a lovely meditation.

Feels like dawn, but also night cuz crickets ... or space where there is neither. Makes me feel chill though, thanks.
