Elegy for a King

I was feeling really down Friday night when I heard that Chadwick Boseman had passed away.  After all the crap that's been going on this year it just added to that feeling even more.  Seeing as I hadn't started on my track I decided to noodle on the keyboard in the dark.  I honestly didn't want to work on music so I figured I'll just find a quiet pad sound and write some somber chords.  Then I got distracted for a bit and read that Spitfire was starting a community playlist for their LABs instruments.  So I decided to try and limit myself to just LABs instruments.  The strings and pads are from LABs.  The more I played I then went ahead and added a few from their free BBC Symphony Orchestra.  The flute, oboe, clarinet and celeste are from BBCSO.  Lastly the cymbal swell is from Albion One.  But the majority of the track is LABs based.  Even if it doesn't get selected for the playlist I'm happy with the outcome.

Yeah, that was really sad and shocking news.  I have varying reactions to celebrity deaths but this one and Kobe earlier this year both got to me.  Both so unexpected and gone too soon.  2020 is a terrible year, but this is a nice tribute track.  It feels wistful and triumphant at the same time.

A beautiful tribute to a talent gone too soon. Rest in power, king.

Beautiful orchestration. I really liked the track.

His passing felt like a sucker punch. He incarnated so much but beyond that, he seemed to be a really good person.

Great track with a lot of emotion.

This is awesome man, very well composed.  Hard to believe this was done mostly on free VSTs.

That was shocking news. This is great, love that main theme on piano. I feel the sadness and the triumph.  Time I go look at some more Labs, there's quite a few I haven't dipped into yet.

What a beautiful composition. Well done. This'd brighten anyone's 2020.

Not sure what the playlist is, but I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! Chadwick Boseman's passing was heartbreaking to hear about. This track sums up the feeling pretty well.

Oh man, heartbreaking and crushing, in the best way.  I agree with miraclemiles, there's a triumph underneath the piece.

Wow.  at a loss for words, honestly

sublime music. beautiful choice of instruments.

Usually news about a passing celebrity doesn't affect me, but when I woke up to see news about him--after looking to make sure the news wasn't trolling--I felt it hit me center court. Thanks for the tune. I love the water piano. This past week, I downloaded the LABs free items and am enjoying the interesting selection of sounds. Thanks for mentioning them a few times across your tracks.
