Escalate

By Tomavatars on January 18, 2026 4:40 pm

Hello folks!
This week, a track about escalation. It could be an orgasm. It could be a crisis. It coud be the movement from peace to war. The loss of control. The vertigo of falling. Or the thrill of take-off.
I think I really love this one!

It's the first time I'm working this trick I think. The kick is midi bent. So it makes the tempo of the track. But it's not the proper DAW tempo that is accelerating, so all other midi operations and audio processes are bind to the daw tempo, so it gives this polyrhythm touch.

I think I found one direction to work on this year. I've always loved to work with polyrhythm or polymeter. I might go further towards this path.

Produced with Ableton. The kick comes from my M4L drum synth, which is currently in development and which I hope to release soon.

Enjoy!

Love it!!! Very primal, the steadily increasing drumbeat with the higher elements gradually clawing their way up to pull you under! The glitchy beeps emanating from the drums near the end are a great touch, and the finale is climactic and cathartic.

Evocative track! Love the use of automating (?) the kick tempo thru MIDI-bend.

Most excellent!

Long build but worth the wait. I really like those detuned bouncing synths. Curious about that m4l drum synth. I made one a few years back inspired by the pearl syncussion sy-1 when I was learning max breifly.

Great experiment here !

Thank you very very much! I'm glad that you liked it and I love what you have to say about it smile

Thank you! Not automation and it what's making it fun to play like this. It's Ableton Midi tool time warp that allows me to, well, warp the midi notes. So the tempo of the track is always the same and this is what is creating the polyrhythms with the synth.
