Let's Pretend (v3) (In the Style of Temples)

By Tomatron.Jones on October 13, 2024 11:48 pm

I saw the British psych-rock band Temples play this week so I was inspired to try to create something in a similar vein so I noodled around with my 'Let's Pretend' chords on bass and guitar. I tried the psych-rock sound of Temples - compressed drums, big and fuzzy bass, vintageyy, low-mid heavy sound. Unfortunately chords and melody aren't necessarily in the psych-rock vibe, and I neglected the guitar tone the synths as well. I'm not in love with the arrangement either, I ran out of time, kinda did weird stuff with automating the BPM and transposing a B-section. Anyway, I'm not in love with it but it was interesting and I have much more to practice for getting that vintage rock sound.

* Fender Strat guitar + generic 'Fender' P-bass
* Neural DSP Plini and Guitar Rig 6 for guitar processing
* Ableton Wavetable + Helm Plugin for Synths
* Drum samples from Splice
* Valhalla, Transit, RC-20 plugins
* Gullfoss and Ozone for mastering

Total Time: 4.5 hours

Great track, guitar sounds great, and the filtered drum loops work really well to carry the rhythm. Love that breakdown around just before 1min with the warm synths, and that almost tape-stop drop back to guitar sounds great. Awesome!
