Fire away

By Tom Foolery on July 7, 2026 11:11 am

LOOK AT ME GETTING IN EARLY! If that isn't character development, idk what is.

I was about to walk out the door to go and see a showing of Insomnia at the local cinema (still haven't seen it, so I don't know what I missed), but then remembered I will be away this weekend (at Unsound festival in Adelaide) and my parents are arriving on Thursday so this will likely be the last chance I have to record vocals! So, I put on the tour de france highlights and wrote this in about 30 mins (guitar still in DADAAD tuning from Sunday). Vocals were done on the second take because I didn't want to disturb the neighbours, but I am happy with the sound!

There's not much to update on in my life since I only recorded my last thoughts here 2 days ago, however in the days since it seems like there has been a recurring theme of fires. Nowhere I can see them, but they're there, burning away in the background, and their presence is felt. So, I wrote a song about it.

silent space
roars away
strands of heat
touch my face

fire away

stifled air
life on pause
windows closed
opened doors

fire away

That warm signature sound of yours shines through brightly here.  Almost like a fire?  Vocals sound great. Sounds like there are some subtle harmonies that are fantastic.
