Drag it out

I had a little bit more time this week and I managed to get 2 HOURS to work on this one!!

I managed to slow down a little bit this week, and had some nice nights at home. I took a bath, and my cat decided to be brave and came and sat on the edge of the bath nestled up against my head for the whole time which was very sweet. Unfortunately, some new knee problems have been a slight setback in my running training, but hopefully they shall pass soon! Work has continued to be fun, with some good work progress being made, as well as some nice memories with colleagues too! It has been an interesting week though, some ups with good times, and then lots of downs feeling frustrated with other things. I felt a bit stuck at times, like I was just going through the motions and not knowing how to get out, I spent a lot of time in my car feeling like traffic. Slowing down, sleeping better, practicing mindfulness all help with this, and it's a timely reminder to keep those good habits for me.

This weekend it all got a bit busy though (in a good way!). I went and saw a musical with my friend on Friday night. It's been a while since I went and saw a musical, and I forgot how fun it is - how glamorous the building is, the costumes, the choreography, and the musical talent. Some insanely good vocal deliveries, even on comedic songs! We caught up with another friend who had been working on the show afterwards and accidentally had quite a late night going to a very cool alleyway bar that I'd been meaning to visit for a while but had never had an excuse to!

Sadly I had to forego my social Saturday long run, but I did join up with everyone for coffee afterwards which was fun! I did a lot of odd errands, got some blank CDs to make mixtapes for friends (it's been a decade since the last one I made, but a friend gifted me one and I remembered how fantastic they are, so let's bring them back!!), and failed to get some beans for a half-filled beanbag that I have been gifted. Side note: transferring beans between beanbags is a horrendous experience. Who thought having tiny polystyrene balls loose in the world was a good idea?? I don't really want to add more to the world but I also have a half-full beanbag and idk what my other options are. Saturday night I spent at a house warming with friends and accidentally ended up going dancing until 2:00 am. I don't think I've done that in a very long time, and it was really wonderful.

I spent most of today paying my past self back for that. I got a lot of chores done, but was quite tired - unsurprisingly! I went and saw a showing of Spirited Away at the local cinema with a friend which was beautiful on the big screen. I felt I was able to fully appreciate all of the detail this time! Each frame of the animation is so rich. I cleaned the house thoroughly. I made a big dinner with leftovers for lunches. Aaaaand then I sat down to do these weeklybeats.

I'm pretty please with how this one turned out. I had a little more time than the past few weeks but it was still a bit of a rush. I'm happy with the vocal mix on this (had enough time to multitrack) and figured out a few vocal technique and EQ tricks along the way. The guitar part was another tongue twister and took faaaar too many takes, and even so there's still a few hiccups. But it is in standard tuning for once! I also added a little droning synth in there for some extra depth too.

Planning to spend an evening this week catching up on the weeklybeats listening I have missed. Very keen to hear all your wonderful work heart

breathe in
breathe out
leave the ashes
on the tiles

see your friends
through the haze
see the stars
in a daze

there's no easy out
only time you borrow
there's no quick relief
you'll feel it tomorrow

but tonight
let it pass
drag it out
make it last
