6 Weekly Beats 2024 Something Else

By thgirwnhoj on February 11, 2024 6:31 pm

I have a track that I completed for the Disquiet Junto that seems to be popular relative to my other tracks on SoundCloud based on the number of plays. The prompt for that week was essentially to make a “complicated” beat and I put something together between that Thursday and the following Monday. I really like how that track turned out and decided to make it my reference for this week. I went back and listened to it and decided what I think are the traits that set it apart: some irregularity to the kick, moving filters over an arpeggiated pluck sound and a structure that brings it all together in the end. From that starting point, I ended up with something much less complicated, mostly because I also wanted to spend more time on the main melodies. They are on two on different instruments - a guitar and trumpet synth - that come in sequentially, but still work independently. I only hear a hint of my reference track, but either way I am happy with this week’s result.

enjoyed reading about your process, some really nice sounds here, love the change around one minute in, and the post-rock-ish chiming (guitar?) in the second half

Sounds great; I love it when artists post their process here

Really dig how all the syncopated elements work together. The guitar sounds great over the top of everything else. Cool to hear about the process and Disquiet Junto in general.

This came on while I was driving home from work, instantly grabbed my attention, such a nice balance of sounds with nice pulsing kick that isn't too overpowering, guitar is a really nice touch in the second half.  Great job!

Great song! Beat still grooves and moves this along even if a bit "complex." Love all that's going on, the plucky arp and rich pads. Guitar is great, enjoyed.  I remember this Junto, I think I skipped but I do many. I'm Creatures Once (bands name) in lines, and August Miles on Soundcloud now, I think I follow you there, I try and link up with other Junto participants!

Thank you so much! I love post-rock, and while I wasn't going for that when I picked the guitar sound, I can definitely hear it now that you mention it. I suppose it is just my influences coming out in the song.

Thank you! I will continue doing so. A number of people have said they appreciate reading about it and I am happy to share.

Thank you! Yes, syncopation is important to me. I'm also happy to share about my process and even more happy to share about the Disquiet Junto since that has been an important project for me.

Thank you! That is so helpful to hear because I never had the chance to do a car test before I uploaded it! I am so glad the guitar turned out well. I spent a lot of time with the levels on the kick, so I am glad that it didn't come out too overpowering.

Thank you! Groove is what I was going for, so I appreciate that compliment. Yes, I recognize the names from lines and SoundCloud, so I am glad we are connected!

This is very comfortable, especially that guitar floating on the arp.
