FLUTE'S ONLY CLUB WEEK 4! THIS WEEK WAS A LOT -

As much as I love the art of composing via sheet music, the formality of the writing and editing process makes for a labor of love (I'm dyslexic and can't read sheet music if it's badly edited, especially on 0 practice)

NGL, I got 1/4 of the way into recording the initial flute track and almost threw in the towel. Anyway, week 4 of flutes only club marks the end of only flutes (meaning I can compose AND produce at the same time from now on big_smile) DON'T PANIC - there will be more flute, just not like this ha ha ha.

This tune was composed yesterday as a duet for Bass Flute on a VERY long train trip. I made the nearly 3-hour trek from Newcastle to Redfern (and back) for a composing job on the infamous NSW T1 Central Coast/Newcastle line. For better or worse I've spent my life ping-ponging between various stops on this line and I don't see that stopping any time soon.

My Bass flute technique pales in comparison to my concert flute technique, but it's always a joy to play smile

Wow, this is beautiful. Really like the call-response between the 2 flutes.

Winds are such nice timbre instruments, very cool to listen to your playing here.

Oh wow, this is so nice!!!! Awesome job, I'm super envious of folks who can write and perform their own music! Also, "flutes only" sounds like such an interesting limitation to put on yourself! I'm curious about what else is coming up now that the flute only club is done. I'll definitely be tuning in for more along the year!

Lovely track, the bass flute sounds really amazing, great tone and great melody

i love the sound of your bass flute. really nice movement on this track, thank you!

love bass flute! love the call and response. this has a nice softness to it and a sense of motion. sounds like a peaceful trip.

Nice composition. I don't remember ever knowing bass flute existed, even after years playing percussion in symphonic bands in high school. I think we just never had any. Now I know and it sounds awesome.  Great interplay. This could be longer to just get lost in. Cool you composed on a long train ride. This is music for listening to and watching the landscape skitter by. Look forward to hearing the next creations!

Such a nice track, and it sounds original even in the eccentric universe of weekly beats! We need more classical musicians! I like the panning approach with the questions/answers approach. How do you approach composing on a train ride? Do you record ideas directly into a daw with a computer or actually write on partitions? Or something else?

Thankyou smile

I wrote sheet music on the train trip using Sibelius then recorded the audio on my bass flute at home.

Very pleasant to listen to! I especially like how clearly the breaths come through. Perhaps being influenced by the title the breathing sounds like train tracks to me.

It's so pretty, these two together. There's room for a great many things, but by themselves it's very strong.
