Take Your Place

Someone close to me lost a child and sent me a poem she had written. I used some of the phrases and words from the poem to create this song. This week I tried to experiment with strings to really create some dramatic emotion. I think it worked pretty well.
Production notes- there are some little weird things in the vocals that I could spend a lot of time fixing, I think because I just quickly pitch correct the doubles and harmonies, rather than going through note by note to save time. I still haven't got the vocal tone down that I want. Maybe it's just that my voice is like...not my favorite? haha. I'm not happy with the very last note. Just sounds really cheesy to me to end it on the major triad with strings.
I should have re-recorded the guitar at the beginning to get it perfect as well, but was being a little lazy.
I was happy with the fact that even listening back, it moves me on an emotional level, so that's kinda rad.
Oh, and I switched digital drummers in the middle for the first time. That turned out nicely too, I think.
Ok, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

Ooh, wow. Nice job on this one. Strings were a great choice. I think the things you have a problem with are not very noticeable.

I particularly liked the vocal round/call-answer thing at the end.

Sorry for your friend's loss. Heartfelt tribute you've created.

Wow men, great job! I love it. Strings work perfectly and I also like the final part with calls/answers vocals... as a result, everything transmits a lot of emotion heart

Excellent job with this song, it's definitely very emotionally impactful. Beautiful build on the chorus section with the instrumentation and your vocal delivery.  Sorry your friend has experienced such a tragedy.

The song sounds beautiful, I think you've achieved the exact emotional note you were going for. And I feel so much for your friend - no one deserves to go through something like that. Much love to you and your friend.

Damn. Your lyrics always have a punch, but knowing the history behind this makes it hit harder.  So sorry for that loss.

So much awesomeness going on in this song. Amazing lift at the chorus, great emotion. The subtle doubling of the vocals was a great effect, and then turning into the layered vocals at the end. The arpeggiated guitar moving to strums in the pocket with percussion gave it great punch.

I think we’re all the harshest critics of our own voice…your voice is fantastic, and sits in the mix really well.

As far as the end…what, you dissin’ a Picardy third ending? (LOL) I think it sounded great, fit well with all the other string work. As a suggestion, maybe a maj7 for an ending chord? Great track, stellar songwriting.
