Caustic Fermata

Worked myself to the bone this past week, pushed myself too hard for too long a stretch, and left very little time for this composition - so that's what this piece is about. It's about thinking you can just keep muscling through something and brute forcing it, but letting the engine run on hot for too long. Sustaining the grind as it grinds you down. It's basically just delay and distortion smut, but gently guided through a series of phases. Used a bespoke Max MSP delay patch which pushes its feedback loop through an external track which I loaded up with all sorts of goodies that I automated around. Given a little more time, I would have brought down the initial dry instrument's levels a little since it does kind of dominate versus the main cloud section.

I know exactly how you feel. I think this piece is very beautiful. It felt like a nice wind down, letting the week that has been dissolve away into distortion and then silence.
I hope you have more energy for music again soon!
