The Postcode Is A Canvas

By Squig on January 4, 2026 12:32 am

  • The opening sample is of a friend and co-performer casually wishing me best of luck before one of the best shows of my life, which set the tone for the best weekend of my life; it got picked up by the room mic at the start of my set recording as he was walking off stage. I've been wanting to use it in something for months now lmao.

  • In writing this, I started out wanting to sonically recount that weekend, but I ended up drifting in the direction of, more generally, evoking that brief oasis of physical respite you manage to find on the bus on the way to the afters, that moment in which your feet are finally free from holding up your body for a sec, ready to arrive at your destination to keep the night going.

  • The main idea was sketched out in a day or so, but I've been focusing on my mixdown and mastering. I feel like I've learned a lot in that regard. Please let me know what you think of that!

2:36 hell yeah, great track and awesome opener sample. Percussion goes crazy!

Such a vibe!

yesssss

love the very subtle grit on the intro echoing through the delay
big soundscapes and reverb heart heart heart

first synth chords are dreamy

love love love the way the break is introduced with the slice and careful filter sweeps

love how i didn't even notice how the synth cords faded carefully into their place in the background - now slowly working their way to the foreground again
giving puppies good dreams...

pluckkksss yes yes yes, and that bass swell into that transition at 2:40 heart heart heart

love that giving this one a second listen I got to hear the little story about the intro vocal sample, thats so personal and awesome smile

Sound design & mixing really shine through on this one with big big soundscapes and careful transitions - mint

Love the air in this one!  Sounds good on my studio ref system (older series Tannoy + Sub in treated room).  I love the little gated bit at the end, and the S (the) Q (the) U I G call out... that's a super special sample!!  Looking forward to hearing more!

so cool!! love that bassline and i love how this builds

Awesome production, I think you nailed the vibe you described!

the gated (vocal?) synth at the 2/3rd mark. F-yeah. my head's a-boppin'! such a surprise!

The rest of the track is lovely fluid! insta-favourite!

That was  amazing!

Banger!

the production on this is so clean woahh. that choppy section feels incredible !

This was super inspiring. Probably my fav tune this week (of those I've listened to so far).

Such an incredible tune

This doesn't stop! Fantastic track!

cool production! not my cup of tea in terms of style but mix sounds great and all those sections with long floaty chords followed by pumping beats push the track forward well. keeps it interesting the whole way and gives the vibe you talk about. great backstory big_smile welcome to wb2026!

Love the story about the sample - you're embedding that story deep into the melody, I felt like I was coming along for the ride in your memory! I grooved the whole way through, love the spacey build. I'm falling into a little universe here!

And then the dancey groove change at like 2:30/2.40 was aaaah! such a vibe. Fantastic stuff!

Phwoar the mix of genre is incredible! 🤯

exciting yet peaceful, dynamically energetic yet mellow, I loveee heart

This is so nice. I'm glad I am trying to listen to all the week 1 stuff. This Think break work in the first half just sings. The 4/4 ish hat playing against the break is nice. The pads are glorious. I'm less enthused about the return to the flat kick/snare section at 2:40 given the breakbeat segment was top notch. A+ on the bendy bass and pad notes throughout. The musical elements are in the goldilocks zone.

Breathing a big sigh of relief. I usually feel like I go overboard with break chopping, on some ragga jungle shit. Not this time, apparently! Phew!

What they said. Incredible track!
