Welcome to week 16 everyone!

I started with this plucky part on the m8, added a deep bass that kind of interplayed with it.
I'm finding that transposing sections, mixing and matching amounts of transposition is a nice way to squeeze more juice out of an idea or new avenue to continue tweaking. I came up with some B sections and the bridge this way.

This was another revived idea that started to come together after simmering in the backlog.

Revisiting these ideas has given me a little break from heavy creation to do some spring time yard cleanup and bike rides. (That is until it started snowing again last night! lol)

Also nice that previous work has come to fruition and I feel more rested to start something brand new and fresh this week.

Thanks for listening!

love the drums and the syncopated bass/melody lines

strong work!

Ooh crap I am so behind on my SQF. So many ppl to follow on here

Dang I felt a rap verse coming hearing the intro, really dig the vibe. Super cool textures

Long subjective cc because this tickled my brain:

Looking for the right musical words here and not sure if these are the right ones… There was a good section in the Ableton book Making Music on “Silence and Noise” where they talk about the significance of how you use the space between the notes. You can fill it or not which defines many styles.

In the intro, with the crisp staccato textures the “silence” hits really hard. Then with e.g. the lead that comes in at 40s you pad over it with a steady melody that fills the spaces and subtracted from the vibe a little bit to me. I feel like my brain wanted to hear something that played more with the syncopation and silence you have going on. E.g. that tiny bit at 1:30 felt good. The contrast between the filled and empty spaces is cool, but it might have been even better to do that with completely different A and B sections that lean into each 🤷‍♂️

1. I've had a busy few weeks so I've been struggling with listening.
2. I think you nailed some of my struggles exactly, related to trying to fill the void, not allowing for more silence.

Appreciate the feedback!

great work. sounds really lovely. nice!

we are VIBINGGGGGG

Hey, the sounds you used here are eerily similar to Plaid's "Thank", and despite your track's tempo being slower, even the bassline is somewhat similarly bouncy with the syncopation.

That is all to say, I dig your track! I didn't notice any silence/non-silence issues like prophisee. I mean, using silence as a tool is a good tip, no doubt. It's a good thing to keep in mind. That said, to me, the pad is a lead, which you do need for the track to not be boring. Personally, I'd make that sound somewhat more evolving, but that's only because that's what I tend to do in my own music. In the end, everybody's got their own ideas about where to take their tracks.

I can def see the Plaid similarities thanks for sending that along!

Yes, silence is a tool not one I always reach for but always good to keep in mind.
Some evolution of the pad/lead would help out as well.
It also comes down to how much time you have in the week and how much you want to obsess over individual elements. Obsessing over elements has prevented me from finishing/releasing songs in the past so I'm trying to find that balance and build up the tools in my toolkit for making a good song. Feedback/input is def helpful for building the tools.

Thanks for listening and thoughtfully commenting!

Super groovy. I think the use of space is great here. The contrast between sections with and without the more "paddy" sounds feels like good movement for me. Really like the bass and the plucky sounds too!
