sitting with the unknown - W9

By SQF on March 1, 2026 9:33 pm

A slower paced track for week 9.

This is a Digitakt 2 project that I dug back up, made some quick decisions on arrangement/performance and recorded a take. This is the first week in a long time that life kind of got in the way of creating.
I was kind of dreading figuring out what to do last minute but it all came together great and I'm feeling energized for the week.

I always need those little reminders of how rewarding the creative process is no matter what comes out the other end. A reminder of the real reasons to sit down and create.

Overall this song reflects how I'm feeling at the moment and a lot of that feeling is the general uncertainty and unknowns of the world and sitting with those thoughts. A lot of the parts for this were originally written many months ago but going back through projects this morning these felt like messages from my past self to my future self.

Take care out there everyone!
Looking forward to hearing what you made this week

heart sitting here with you - at least we have this lovely pensive soundtrack!

This really does have a contemplative vibe to it.  There's a lot to think about right now, a lot of it not great, but you've captured that feeling in a way that's pleasant to listen to.

excellent progression that builds so nicely on top of the laid back groove of the drums.  That bass sound has such a pleasing tone too.  Feeling those past messages indeed! Well done!

Big fan of how this one came out. The slower tempo really gets across the pensive introspective mood very nicely. Uncertain, worried. Maybe even a little scared.
Really nicely done, friend.

Love the slower paced beat and mournful synths, you've really captured uncertainty.
I always love how you explore different synth sounds throughout and this is no exception.

This track sounds relaxed. Just the right amount of everything. Well done.

Kinda in love with the fact that bass starts out almost like a humming guitar amp woth an unplugged cable... its so deep and raw and then the character of the rest of the song matches so perfectly. Even if this felt rushed and last minute while you were making it, whats come out is a song that knows what it is and expresses that beautifully. There's so much substance here its just oozing mood.

Really nailed that pensive vibe. My favorite moment is the lead coming in over that lonely bass at 1:05.
Oh and the tremolo plucks are a nice touch, a nice representation of feeling stuck.

Love your choices of sounds as always. You do always chose great patches, nice chord progression, cool little melodies on top.

Bravo!

This is definitely a complicated situation out there, and not so much we can do at this point.

It is great news however that the creative act made you feel energized. These experiments with different racks and approaches open new doors. I like how you add the lead at 1:10, rejuvenating the track. The fuzz lines at 1:23 are also very nice. i love the outro that disappears into infinity.

The harmonics on that bass are so cool! 😎 Love the way you put it regarding past messages to future you. One of the coolest parts about dusting off old project sessions or listening to past releases.

I like this, loving that droning low end, ooh that higher lead comes in, so tasty. I wanna close my eyes and vibe to this.
I feel pulled to revisit old tracks too, it's a good thing. Love your note about how the creative process is rewarding. YESSS!

duuuuuuuuuuuuuude that is a STRONG open... like a bass I can feel in my spine... instantly pulled me in.  And that voice that comes in around 1:28... yeah... this one is all the feelings.

Listened to this track once, and then immediately went back because I wanted to hear how this all builds again. Such great sound choices, love that droning buzzy bass. Like neon said, just like an electric plugged guitar cable! Then those laid back drums come in…great new lines add in and all compliment but never feel too busy…everything has such a great feel of space. Tasty levels of distortion as well, and that ending delay has feel of dub. Awesome. Favorited!

Really love the slow pace and evolution of it. The melodies are great.
