linger W42

By SQF on October 20, 2024 3:47 pm

This one is a bit of practice in not rushing song sections and letting things linger a bit.
I ended up scrapping a project I had been working on all week, just wasn't feeling it. I'll likely revisit but I started a new thing last night and really dig it this morning so I expanded a bit on it and here it is!

Not the most complex song and really had to push myself to let things sit and develop despite feeling like some parts might repeat a bit too much. But hey, weekly beats is all about experimentation.

Thanks again for all the listens and comments!
Happy week 42!

I'm a big fan of this style of slow and patient unfolding of a song. I think you nailed it! wink

Awesome! I think I let my own impatience get in my way so I'm glad to hear you dig it

"If you, if you could return..."

i love the pace and feel of this, SQF! and for me at least, not too repetitive. in fact i hit play again right when it finished  big_smile

This is great. I had the same issue last week - repeats felt too short when I was arranging, so I lengthened them, and then when it was done they sound too long. I don't think your repetitions sound long here at all, I'd say they're perfect - and wow, those warm pads with just a little slide come in at the perfect moment. That was powerful! Great track!

A solid groove foundation and then it really builds nicely as the layers keep coming in.  Not too repetitive at all to my ears.

Really enjoyed the slow-burn beginning - letting that mood build. Perfect amount of time to let sections build, and never feel repetitive. It also made those textures that came in later feel that much more euphoric - was fun noting how lush and full it was at the end, and thinking about the sparse beginning it had. It was a journey. Loved when you pulled away the percussion at then for the finish. Great development on this track!

That everything builds so slowly then retracts so quickly at the end plays really well of each other.  Around the 2.20 mark where it all comes together - very, very nice!

Wise approach to let things build up gradually. By the time the detuned synth lead comes in, the stage is ready for a finale, and that definitely delivers. The definition of a successful "slow burner"!

Interesting experiment, definitely turned out pretty dope.  I really love the harmony of the melodic section that comes in around 1:38, VERY cinematic feel which is augmented by the like synth "strings" that come in around 2:17.  Super cool track.

Hey, the approach works well here!  And a nice inspiration for me, I tend to be "a bit" rushy in most of my tracks.

Cool challenge, turned out nice. Might detract from the “lingering” but some more subtle automations on stuff like FX as you’re letting the loops roll could up the intrigue and give a stronger sense of motion

Real smooth. Enjoyed this.

love the bouncy feel the drums quickly get going.  oooh such a pleasing thick wall of synth!  Feels like a flower blooming in stop motion and expanding into space smile  Well done!

I could not agree more, I super appreciate the slow burn here. I find that I never have the courage for slow build-ups, I always worry that they will tire the listener. But I can assure you, this was a very pleasant ride with no stale or monotonous bits.
