Love Is Not A Test (WB13)

Despite what some may have you believe, love is not a test.

This one turned out to be a bigger bite than I first thought. I broke out lots instruments! Chimes, finger cymbals, claps and maraca for aux percussion, bit of computer drums, DI guitar, DI bass, lots of vox stax, Harmonium for the pads!, and I tested out my new 3D printed ocarina! Spent pretty much the whole day on Saturday tracking this and the scope just kept growing bit by bit. Lots of mixing, compressors, eq, reverb, track grouping and bussing.

This week was more of a challenge than usual if for no other reason than I used a lot more tracks than I usually do. I ended up with about 30 tracks in 7 groups and it seems I might be able to get some more efficiency out of my process if I seriously look at redesigning my workflow with using the sends architecture instead of these tree grouping. That might just be the next evolution to make this production work flow grow smile This one might have ended up too busy but pretty happy with the end result smile

Lyrics:

Love is not a test
We're falling short
But we're doing our best
Lets not opine - "This time will be different than the rest"
Love is not a test

Wow, those vocals are absolutely fantastic, and the ocarina is amazing.

I came for "WeeklyBeats," but stayed for "WeeklyFullyProducedSinglesBySpry"

1. This sounds amazing.
2. Your voice raising to hit the high notes in the background gives off vibes that remind me of Leftoverture-era Kansas in a Very Good Way.
3.

I used a lot more tracks than I usually do.

I'd hope you don't usually record this many tracks every week―that would be WeeklyFullTimeJob!  It sounds full enough that you needed to book the studio twice to fit the whole band.  tongue   I can't imagine how long it took to set up, but the description says you did it all on Saturday?!  Or was that just "tracking" it all?

Thanks you so much for the kind words heart I'll take a comparison to Kansas as a good thing any day! carry on.. lol

I did record it all on Saturday through the afternoon and evening while doing some rough chopping and mixing along the way but I left off all the fx chains completely for the time. It was quick mostly because it was all through the same little pad mixer on my desk direct into Ableton so I wasn't messing with changing setups or amps etc. I took a nap after dinner and woke up around midnight for late night mixdown. probably not the healthiest workflow either. I didn't have much to do this weekend I suppose but it was fun!

Such a beautiful song. I think all your efforts came out successfully magnificient. I love your singing in multiple layers so much. The instruments sound very good in the mix. A super super supergood track.

Love the lyrics and the melodies. What a great singalong. Great job.

A 3d printed ocarina! You're taking coolness to the next level (I am not being sarcastic, I actually think this is really cool).

The vocals are awesome there, the way they are recorded and mixed. This track has both this raw/live/around a fire vibe but also a larger space, especially with the ocarina in the background. Really awesome sense of space and great melodies. One of my favorite tracks so far on WB.
