Pull You Down

By Sodabelly on January 25, 2026 6:31 pm

laguna mentioned that my song sounded "Dinosaur Jr-ish" last week so I decided to lean into that again. Unfortunately my girlfriend called in sick to work today so I'm unable to re-record the vocals as she's sleeping on the couch beside my computer desk so I'm left with two identical under-produced placeholder verses -- but at least I made sure to squeeze in a guitar solo this week. I wish I had more time to make the instrumental section at the end truly epic...Enjoy!

Catchy and has this very 90s kinda like Cranberries and other folk of the time vibe. Love the guitar.

This is great. Mogwai post rock kinda vibes.

I love that like Mellotron flute, maybe super filtered trumpet?... Anyway the tone is awesome and it plays off the guitars at the end super well.  Great vibe.

I really like your "rock" stuff. I was more used of electronic based music from you that I liked as well... but yeah, pop rock is great also.

Very cool guitars. If you just added a bit more compression to your vocals, I feel it already is very pretty good. Very cool to hear the voice behind Sodabelly.

Nice dirty tones for the solo and build up at the end of the song is very cool!

Well played!

It feels a little bit mellower than Dinosaur Jr. to me, but it for sure nails the 90's indie rock vibe.  I grew up on that stuff so I'm pre-disposed to love this.  The ending is cool, wouldn't have minded if it went on a little longer.

1. Beautiful track—guitar, vocals, everything!
2. The description led to a discussion with Fiancé about Dinosaur Jr, which I did not know about
3. We hope your girlfriend feels better
4. How has no one mentioned that sublime gif

really nice, love the guitar!

indeed the guitars sound so good.  bass grooves with the drums so nicely.  love when the guitar takes off with the strings towards the end.

HELL YES

speaking of Dinosaur, my forestlike bandmate & i were just geeking out over this 1/2 live punch on MTV from '93:

J seems like he's been old forever, so it's weird to see him young and fresh-faced. the no-Lou era, but still rips.

ANYWAY... keep on rockin' when you can, i love it

A complete song, I appreciate that, must have taken a lot of effort. Love the wistful mood here, sounds like a lost song from early Pearl Jam sessions. Timeless. No notes, five stars.

We Lost the Sea vibes in the best way possible.   And the little orchestration details make it sublime

I really hope your significant other is feeling fine now. I listened to this on Monday while riding the subway, and after some real life boring stuff and struggling with the comment form on mobile, I forgot to comment. Sorry about being late.

I'm really flattered you had my comment in mind when making this one. It was a sincere compliment, since IMHO there is a lot of the best 90s "college rock" moments in your later pop/rock work.

Maybe you were that kid in class raving about Primus playing "120 Minutes" on MTV late at night and your classmates couldn't see "what was the big deal" with Evan Dando. I'm talking out of experience here wink

I really love the guitar phrasing at 0:38. This one wouldn't leave my walkman. Your vocals sounds mildly raw yet quite in context. The ending is somewhat abrupt so that's the only sign here of an "unfinished" song. Sincerely, it sounds quite complete and even the ending is not "a dealbreaker" in any way.

It's really nice to discover this side of you. Let me go back to my '94 self and ask you from the mosh pit "Yo dude! Don't you have any cool fuzz-solo track? like a Mudhoney one? Come on, dude!"

Amazing work, Sodabelly. Please rock on !!!

Hope your SO is feeling better! I love the solo at the end and the entire end section of the track, really great stuff.

Throwing a wild one out there... did you play that violin???
