Best Regrets

By Sodabelly on October 13, 2024 3:56 am

I composed this one while falling asleep at my keyboard over a couple nights, I think it kind of reflects that a little bit. I'm okay on this one. Enjoy!

Just curious, how is everyone feeling about their work this year? Have you learned anything new or implemented something into your process?

This is very very beautiful. The track is wonderfully composed and has a calming effect. Love this one.
This year I discovered that experimenting with a saxophone and a clarinet can be a good extension for my music.
These instruments are completely new for me, but I can produce instantly sounds that I knew from so many records.  Now I think the tracks gain from it and I can start a new chapter.

That piano's quite emotive, it carries the song forward. I like this, there's something hopeful in those best regrets.

I've grown a lot through consistent work on weekly beats this year. I'm still on a 100% streak and I gotta say it feels great. I look back and it's just so obvious how much stuff I learned.

How about you?

ahhh this is so relaxing, now i want a nap!

this year has really been great for me musically. i do really well with a deadline, so it helped me to wrap up some ideas that i had floating out there.
i also learned to work quicker and (hopefully) smarter, and to trush my instincts and ears more.
and i think (hope) that i have made some improvements with mastering.

i've been doing some work on myself this year too - trying to take time each day to find some quiet and calm, and also journaling. and i think that has greatly helped my creative process, and just my relationship with music in general.

looking/ listening back there are some things that i can focus on that make me cringe or that i would do differently now... but overall i'm happy that i have this body of work and this year documented in this way.

i am also curious how you are feeling and what you have learned so far?

Thanks! "but I can produce instantly sounds that I knew from so many records" I am excited just from the very thought of this...maybe I should buy a new instrument! I've noticed this stuff in your tracks and I'm loving it.

That's awesome! I missed my upload deadline one week and never got a response, just trying to live with that lol. It's definitely the way to improve though, even if every week isn't a glorious winner I always learn something or hone my ear or theory just a little more.

I agree with working faster and smarter this year, but I really need to work on myself. It's been such a busy year between work, and spending my days off helping my girlfriend start her own thing (involves lots of photography and hiking) so I feel like I never get a proper day off, or have energy for the gym or journaling or whatever. I'm really happy that I squeezed in WB for the most part every week though. For the most part I've improved my workflow and with the palette of instruments I normally use, I feel confident that I can work quickly to come up with something quite nice most of the time. But I'm bored so stay tuned for next week's track where I flip everything I've done this year on its head!

Thanks for taking part in the discussion here, and as always thanks for listening smile
