Space Disco (OPL3)

By Snyderman on February 11, 2024 11:01 pm

Whew! I said I like house and techno so here we are. A track heavily inspired by Prins Thomas (especially the album Prins Thomas 2, check it out!) who also works in a more recent genre called Space Disco, common in the Nordic countries in the 2010s for whatever reason.

I started working on a song in another genre but got frustrated and short on time so I fell back into a comfortable 'from memory' genre. I got a good groove going but towards the end I lost some steam and ran out of time.

Things I worked on this week:
- Transitions across barlines, especially patch modifiers (mostly volume and delay parameter automation) to create the same kind of effect you'd hear from knob twisting in techno in a real setting or in Ableton.
- As usual, working on some percussion patterns and interlocking beats. That's low-key my main goal for 2024 playing around in all these styles as I learn what makes them tick.

Neat to hear you managed these smooth transitions in the tracker! And the interlocking rhythms here are a ton of fun too.

So many syncopated elements! Really enjoyable. I like how (comparatively) simple the bass and melody are, the combo works well.
