Lay Back (Mini)

By sleepside on February 1, 2026 11:25 pm

Digging into the Dirtywave M8s newish microtiming changes for this short G-funk-inspired beat. The pads are from a Minichord (hence the title), and the snare comes from a sample pack by Jacob the Sleepy. Everything else is onboard synths

It's smooth, but also a little menacing.  I especially liked that kind of harsh noise that first rears its head around 0:18 and recurs a few times.

I really, really like the high pitched lead that comes in at about half way... I think I just have a thing hot high pitch melodies, hahahah... Feels super crunchy and lofi, super cool!

Lovelly combination of smooth beats and slightly unsettling synths.

I especially like the almost overwhelming synth at the start.

Very enjoyable! Love the bass a lot heart

Thank you! I realized too late that I accidentally lied in my description. That harsh, overwhelming "synth" is not a synth, but a reversed sample I recorded of a distorted guitar

Thank you! I love a G-funk whistle, but it usually comes out too cheesy when I try it, so I'm glad it worked this time big_smile. The high melody is hypersynth with a PSL in the table

Thank you! The bass is Macrosynth CSaw with some clipping, degrade, and redux to dirty it up (plus filter env ofc)

Feels like riding the subway at night in the rain, the city lights just streaks in the darkly tinted windows. Whats’s at the end of the tracks? Don’t know — gotta stay sharp.

Lovely image. That kind of nocturnal melancholy always hit me (with or without the hint of danger)
