Tower of Ocon

5/4, 4/4, and 3/4 time. Beat is divided into triplets. Scale is Purvi Thaat. Transposition numbers are 1 3 2 1 1 3 1.

As it turns out, putting the hi-hat on the first and third triplet makes it easy to switch time sigs.

I'm continuing to enjoy your work with strange scales and time signatures.  It's interesting how "un-strange" they sound.  I really like the part that kicks in a little past the halfway point on this one.

This is really cool, I love how, despite the time signatures and such, it still sounds really - for lack of a better word - natural. Awesome job on this, fav'd!

Really interesting work again - ditto in that I dig the changes past the half way point.

This reminds me of a game bonus level that involves quite a lot of tension and/or confusion smile

As mentioned above, your mastery is indicated by the fact that these complicated multi-rhythms and scales DON'T sound all that strange ::)

The hats are pretty cool and the snare!

Thank you very much! smile That's the part where it switches to 3/4 time - did the melody by subtracting notes. Was fun!

Thank you very much! This scale doesn't have a Western equivalent, but it does seem to have a jazzy feel to it imo. Thanks for listening smile

Thanks Tim. I do enjoy tension, and an augmented 4th always helps!

I encourage you to try the 5/4 beat out - it is remarkably versatile! I learned it from a youtube video "5/4 Drum Beats - Advanced Drum Lessons"

big_smile The drums have some effects. Tuned up 8 cents with the medium range boosted above the lows and highs, then layered over itself.

Nice drum
Scary good strings

Tastey drums.  Never come across Purvi Thaat before!!   I like how the ride cymbal sits :-)

Nice sounds!
I wonder how you actually work with getting the SNES sounds... soundfonts? how how how?? smile

Feeling very Secret of Mana-esque

Thanks! Purvi Thaat is cool because, in C, it has the C E G tonic dominant thing going for it, plus the C# and F#/G# are perfect intervals from each other so the scale sounds strong despite the string of semitones in the middle

Yup, it's soundfonts smile I use SynthFont as my primary DAW

5/4 is one of my favorite time signatures. this track was a lot of fun and i love it when you can find out ways to shift the hihats and do seamless transitions. downloaded!

would love to hear this in the bg of an rpg or something, really cool composition smile

Interesting!

Very cleverly constructed.  Nothing worse than when people try to compose in odd signatures and it sounds forced.  I'd love to hear it with a different sound set, that would be very cool.  The fm sounding bell tones at the end are sweet.

We all have to start somewhere. Even if it sounds forced, you can get better! smile
