We went outside and it was pretty nice

By shindigs on February 2, 2020 11:47 pm

Played the piano keys, soft synth pads, and various foley samples for percussive elements.

Looking for some feedback on mixing.

very chill!! L/R separation on the foley bits feels nice, on the longer rattling/xylo bit near the end i felt like i wanted it Center since it was the lead-out kinda thing

I stayed inside and found this song and it was pretty nice too.

Honestly, the mixing's fine, maybe the reverb on the piano could be boosted slightly to be more as background to the foley, but it's still real solid.

Sorry I don't have any feedback, just wanted to drop in to say I liked the track. Super chill. smile

Agree with Devieus on this one. The mixing is solid, maybe a touch more reverb on the piano. All around great track.

I like this track, very pretty! Great work

Pretty good one. makes me feel happy inside. thanks.

Only listening on earbuds on my commute but the mix sounds great to me (aren't we mixing for earbuds these days anyway?) Little foley percussion feels very disparate in the mix with the panning but that might be what you're going for. Love the piano and synth lines and where they're sitting in the mix against that warm pad. Feels like you've got space in the centre for some central percussion but it's not really needed. Great tune!

Very pristine.  Maybe the sharper percussive hits could be EQ'd to be a bit softer, or just brought a bit further away from the foreground?  I'm no mixing master, though, so take that with a grain of salt as a personal preference.  More importantly, the tone of that piano sounds superb.  Great work!

The textures are awesome, and I enjoy your beats a lot. This was really chill and pleasant! Good work

Good point! I've been focused on having each track have their "position" in the track, so more movement based on context sounds like a good next step.

Thanks! The foley did feel a bit "dry" at times and I was looking for another sound to pad it...should have just looked at what was there already.

Thank you! Been sticking with just what the piano preset has been delivering (which already sounds great) so it sounds like it's time to venture toward some effects.

Also felt the foley felt a bit disparate - like 50% of what I wanted to go for but still learned a lot from doing it. Some people suggested adding reverb to the piano for pad so I'll try that next.

Similar songs I drew from sounded very full but "clear and open" - I would agree to me this track is missing some "fullness"

I also get a lot of focused listening done on a commute, very cool to have this song heard in a similar setting. Thank you!

Getting the mixing right on the drums is what I spent a lot of time on. Near the end, I was listening to other tracks for reference and I felt everything could be quieter so I agree with that suggestion. Always tricky when you listen to the same elements on repeat over and over.

Thank you! Late to the Weekly Beats party this year but I've been enjoying your tracks too!
