Patria, part 1

By scy on June 23, 2024 11:48 pm

I'm currently in Frankfurt, Germany, and this happens to be where the match Switzerland vs. Germany of the 2024 UEFA European Football Championship has taken place today.

I'm German, and not exactly what you'd call a patriot. There's a lot going wrong in this country, and I'm not happy with the way things are. On top of that, I'm pretty skeptical when it comes to displays of "national pride".

All of the football fans in the city today made me somewhat uncomfortable. I even woke up this morning to a bunch of teenagers singing the national anthem below my window. I can't quite put my finger on it, but all of that is making me uneasy.

So, this week's submission, "Patria, part 1", is inspired by the national anthem and my mixed feelings about Germany. It's a slow, maybe even boring track. Something you'd have running in the background.

And since I've started no earlier than Sunday (again), I didn't quite have the time to finish it the way I wanted it to be. Actually, as the deadline approached, I felt like this could become a 15-minute song, and I certainly didn't have time for _that_.

Which is why I'm calling this part one. I probably won't make a part two any time soon though.

Deluge only, using presets from the Boards of Deluge 5 pack I've bought today.

Big floaty space. Feels good.

I like the idea of being inspired by a well-known, simple piece of music, such as a national anthem or a folk song. (I had one of these myself as one of my first Weeklybeats, too.) Reminds me of Laibach‘s Volk, which I still think is a very intriguing album.

Sounds interesting! I need to check that out, thanks smile Also, TIL: "The word "volk" means "people" or "nation" in German and "wolf" in Slovene."
