The Underground Forge

By Saguaro Gigante on May 12, 2024 10:02 pm

I've been really enjoying trying to make these little tunes that might work in a video game context! This week I thought it would be fun to try do something more dungeon like since I did an outdoor sounding tune last week. I think it ended up sounding like the sounds of a forge in a large cavern or something like that.

definitely sounds like an upgrade screen to an old school top down RPG. Good stuff!

Dude these RPG tunes are killer, reminds me of playing Legend of Legaia. One of my all time favorite RPG's!

Lol yeah man, this is really cool. Definitely feels very much like its titled. The instrument choices are on point. Do you recall which ones you were using? Sounds like an exotic string instrument and equally interesting percussion. And is the bass also a VST or did you record bass guitar?

Thanks! I've never heard of that game but I'm glad this tune seemed to remind you of something you've actually played before!

Thanks! The main melody in the first section is provided by a virtual Chinese Ruan Moon Guitar setting from Logic. The instrument appears to be the Logic sampler, so I'm guessing they actually captured samples of a real instrument. I used a Muted Electric Bass (also a sampled instrument) and for percussion I used a Latin percussion kit and a Timpani both of which are also sampled. The melody in the second section is a Hammered Wood preset that uses the Alchemy instrument, which I think is a synthesizer. But yeah I've noted the sampled bass sounds pretty convincing.

Yeah, the space in this one is... off the wall. OK, I'm done wink. Love the percussion-forward mix here. Has a Goron vibe to me.
