Song of a Spruce Tree

By Saguaro Gigante on July 28, 2024 10:11 pm

Over the last year or so I've been learning some folk and bluegrass acoustic guitar. I've really enjoyed learning the flatpicked fiddle repertoire on the guitar. At the beginning of this year I wrote and recorded one fiddle tune but I thought it was time for another. I went for a more modal sounding tune this time around in the style of many traditional tunes I've heard with a similar sound.

Still getting the hang of recording acoustic guitars (it's definitely a different sort of thing from recording electric guitars direct in), but I think this one came out much clearer sounding than my previous attempt.

I do love me some flatpicking... very well played, and arranged.  And, the recording sounds really nice.  It's really easy to over process acoustic guitar, and lose a lot along the way, which is a shame particularly in folksy styles.  This sounds really nice, you did a great job retaining the character of the instrument and dynamics of the flatpicking style.  Bravo.

Chewing on a wheat stem and rocking back in forth in my chair to this right now.

Modal is the way to go imo, sounds good!
