Aquila

Had a lot of fun making this one. I decided to try some things I don't do very often such as double tracking most of the leads and also quad tracking the guitars to blend some different sounds. I'm not used to mixing more than two rhythm tracks, a lead as well as bass and drums so it was a bit of a challenge. I was really up and down with enthusiasm with this one throughout the week. Sometimes being very excited about how it was turning out and other times being lukewarm towards it. At the very end though I started finding some melodies to go with the rhythm guitars and ended up really liking how it turned out. I have fun listening and playing along with it so I'm content!

Track is a blast, very fun listen.

That 2:03 riff is sick! Very Deliverance-era Opeth, I think. OH GOD DAMN WITH THAT SOLO! Putting everyone to shame with those shred skills. And way to bring it home back to that excellent folk melody foundation. Nice outro lick wink Production is excellent across the board, I think the quad-tracked guitar sounded really good and definitely worth trying out again. One day, when you get comfy with doing more growls, I think some Dan Swano-esqe vox on a track like this would be excellent.

Super cool! Love that you're experimenting with different things each week to figure out what works for you. Great riffs in here, and awesome soloing.  cc: Mix is a bit dark. HPF on guitars to un-muddy the low end. lead guitar has a nice bite to it, but when it is absent the rhythm guitars lack some of that aggression. Try boosting around 2.5-4k, and maybe some highs (8k) too.

Thanks! That's quite a compliment to get a Deliverance comparison. I'm glad you liked the solo! I was just having a bit of fun really. I wasn't sure I was going to go with it but I figured I should have some fun with it because why not. Glad you liked the outro lick, I was really trying to find a nice melody for this track. Glad you liked the production too. I tried! I think I will definitely do the quad tracked guitars more, though it definitely is a lot more work recording four tracks. And yes I definitely would have wanted to add some growly vocals to this one, but I ran out of time to write lyrics and record vocals! Also it wasn't really until the end that it really started sounding like a metal tune. Before that it was almost a classic hard rock song with a metal bridge!

Thanks! Appreciate it. I'm glad you enjoyed the song. And by dark do you mean lots of low end? I definitely noticed that there was still a bit too much low end as I was getting to the finishing stages. I did use high pass filters on all the guitars, but I wonder if I didn't use a strong enough cut. It might actually be my bass guitar that's adding all that low end though. I'm not really sure how to properly balance and EQ a bass guitar yet. I might even be turning it up too loud for fear of not having it be heard. I really like being able to pick out the bass guitar in recordings but I may need to experiment with how to get it to sit better in the mix.

Thank you very much! I play the guitars and bass parts but I used Logic Drummer tracks since I don't play drums (I would really like to someday though, I think drums are awesome and I would really enjoy being able to play them myself). Glad you enjoyed the tune, thanks for checking it out!

Yes, that is what I meant by dark. If you're finding that your bass is high in the mix but still not really cutting through, an EQ bump around 1k-2.5k might help you.

the mix sounds amazing, keep doubling stuff up!

Super solid track. Sick work on those strings at 2:42 and 3:12 feels so nice. Great finisher, too.

weird comment but I LOVE the length of this song.

I was enjoying it and didn't want it to end and I was like "good, one more minute!"
