Cool Person Friend

By sad_infamy_sings on January 7, 2022 2:52 am

Lyrics: I’m sorry I couldn’t be your cool person friend
just not who i am
or what you expect me to be

is that alright? is that cool? i guess its cool

i guess i’ll step around you
i guess i’ll find myself in the bramble
and i’ll take a look around here for my heart
its gotta be around

stay away from that river
smells bad
you’ll catch your death there, my friend
i’m sorry

i couldn’t be your cool person friend
just not who i am
not what you expect of me

is that cool? is that alright?  i guess its cool yeah its cool

you know this land is cursed by a great big sin
it bleeds
i feel a pain in my knees

i step through this quiet quarry, treacherous,
shadows drip from the trees
i capture light in their leaves

these stones are too heavy for me to carry home
the land it speaks to me it tells me to heal it but i can’t that’s not me, i can’t do that not on my own, i couldn’t be

you’re cool person friend
i’m sorry i couldn’t be
it’s just not who i am, not who you expect me to be

and i’m sorry, i’m going home

Really enjoy your lyrics and the track vocal volume seems quiet in some parts
Keep up the good work smile

the free-flowing phrasing and instrument selection made me think of The Incredible String Band

Thank you! Yeah, that might be referring to how I recorded part of the uke with an old vocal track in open air and it caught some of the echo haha, oops! Though, I think the mistake adds something strange I can't put my finger on.

My pleasure. I think you'll like them smile

What a ride, I wonder what the story behind it is now

I love this approach - I actually like the mix a lot, it fits the song. I can hear the lyrics clearly but I have to work a bit at it which works great for the song. Recording the voice first and then matching the uke to it does this funny thing where they’re clearly “together” but someone disjointed. It reflects the personal struggle in the lyrics.

I absolutely love the flute! Haha! I would turn up the vocals just a tiny bit, but it is true that the mix really fits the song. Lovely track heart

How did I not hear this until now?! So excited to see sincere folk music here, lovely song, let me know if you'd like to make something psychedelic together sometime down the line...

Very personal and free. Cool!

Thanks!  The lyrics were mostly adlib, though the phrase was kind of inspired by how hard it can be to reconcile with those whose expectations of you do not match reality. The second strain about the cursed land has a different kind of message, i was just feeling those things at the time, weaving the two concepts together may seem strange, but it feels interesting.  I like leaving the song up to interpretation!

Thanks! I’ve always fallen short on the technical side of things, I’ll try to get better at mixing the tracks better this year.I admit I’m kind of lazy hahaha. I suppose some of the rawness though may contribute to the effect, thankfully!
