This week's Disquiet Junto project is one of the most surprising and inspiring. It asks musicians to record a track in honor of the late Achim Szepanski, founder of the Mille Plateaux record label known for the "Clicks + Cuts" compilations of glitch music.

I immediately knew what I'd like to do, but was limited by my current geographical location, away from my usual equipment. After two aborted attempts, I settled on Live with a few instances of Reaktor, using only Reaktor's built-in factory machines. Those are pretty old pieces of software in 2024, and therefore often overlooked, but they are just as compelling and fresh sounding as they were when they were first released.

The track was started on an airplane over Canada and finished on location in New Brunswick CA. My main inspiration (save for the "Clicks + Cuts" compilations) is Kangding Ray's "stabil" album. Highly recommended, I love that thing!

126 BPM 4/4, F-major. Reaktor factory machines: Sinebeats 2, Junatik, and Newscool vocoded with Steampipe2. Glitching achieved with resampling, filtering, bit crushing, triggering, etc. in Ableton Live.

Love a good glitch. Stereo panning/positioning/modulation working brilliantly here, there's these central elements rooting the reverb of the space with dancing percussion in every direction, really compliments the glitch well.

This totally captures that clicks+cuts vibe. Gave me a bit of nostalgia for those early IDM days. And its a really good track in its own right, quite impressive it was made on a single plane trip yikes Love the resonant bass  and the glitches are quite really nicely done.

Solid AF for something made on a plane ride. I like the glitchy click idea it's something I'd like to explore a bit myself.

This is a strange campfire.

Oooohhhh I like how glitchy and light-industrial this feels. Super great feeling overall. It sounds like you spent a lot of time curating the song's sound design, because there are a bunch of super cool tiny little bleeps and bloops all around. Great work!

love the detail that comes through, truly a treat for the ears!

Well damn, this is rather excellent - and sounds so clean.  Some really nice IDM type glitching.

Nicely done. Very wide mix which is super fun.

I really like the groove there.

Liking this sound design and glitching. Influences coming through with your own twist. Interesting approach.

Really awesome stereo effects in this one, it make analytical listing feel like a high speed reflex game, in like the best possible way.

Highly recommend Kangding Ray's tracks too! Great tune, I dig it.

glitchtastic!

Nice festival of blips and blops. These little glitch and this 4 dimensional beat is hypnotic. Oh i love that distant string line in the back, close to subliminal. That's interesting.

Sounds great, crispy and delicious clicks and cuts. Great work. Glitch, IDM goodness, nailed it. Now I want to go play with Reaktor, have not used it much, it's sitting growing digital dust.
I used my Disquiet creation for this weeks WB too, and finally got it uploaded here, just got the late upload link yesterday.

damn good!

Hell yeah, I'm in texture city. This sounds like a quantum factory, constantly dissolving and creating, revolving, smashing and reforming. But there's this consistent heartbeat that gives the whole system its energy. Really digging this.

What a good rule.
