Axiom of Joys

By rplktr on May 26, 2024 3:47 pm

mind is empty, heart is full

I welcome all critical feedback.

Did you know Saturday was Drone Day? This one was composed in Pittsburgh amongst post-conference mindbody fog. Exhaustion but also tremendous gratitude.

The duration of 4'33" is coincidental, but fortunate.

44 BPM 4/4, G-major. Still without my usual equipment, this was made in-the-box with Renoise. Opsix Native, Monark, Pianoteq tongue drum. Field recording from a few weeks back from a lake near my house in Poland.

(ha, there seems a few of us who don't always use renoise, but decided to use it this week here big_smile)
this is a beautiful atmosphere! (nicely mixed, too) so meditative smile

critical feedback: haha, i guess to be honest, around the 3:00 mark, i start to wonder what those birds/animals are laughing so much about... i dunno if that's as meditative in feel as it started, but maybe that's also a good thing(they ring out beautifully in the reverb with a nice touch like waking up from a dream of strange animals by the ending) big_smile

This is absolutely gorgeous and evocative! Fantastic! I really like the vinyl noise at the beginning, the drones and animal sounds throughout, but I think my favorite part is the quiet melody that the steel drum plays at around 3:00. Just immensely pretty, awesome job!!!

really lovely track, had to listen a few times. i had the windows open and i think our birds were confused about these strange visitors smile
may the fog clear!
ps: please tell your birds i said hi

Fam, I'm really grateful for your persistence while I was away from the platform as a listener. Thank you for your continued feedback, it means a lot.

Heeey, great to see you back! heart

I appreciate the feedback, and I have to admit I was thinking about the bird "intensity" myself when working on the track. In the end I decided that the growing "dawn chorus" is a mode of the song here. You can hear those sounds from the very beginning but they become more prominent as time progresses.

And yeah, working on this in Renoise was interesting. This is one of those tracks that would be easier to make in Ableton Live but I find Live without any controllers a pain to use. And also, it's good to refresh my Renoise skills every now and then. It's funny how frustrating it becomes when you forget the keyboard shortcuts big_smile

Haha, those are not vinyl sounds but actual steps when I made the field recording big_smile But I can see the similarity.

Haha, I told my birds "Hi". They were just as confused as yours.
