Weak Seven

So I ran out of time this week. Kind of. I got slammed at work and pulled some overtime and then spent time working on a few tracks for an EP.  So I am sorry to say, my Weekly Beat submission suffered this week.

So what is this?  This is basically a tech demo.  It's LSDJ, but no pulse channels were used.  I recorded some guitar chords and turned them into custom LSDJ kits, and then messed with them to see how far I could stretch the sound.  I think it's cool in a minimalistic sort of way.

Also, full confession, the chords are from a song I'm working on, so this is, in a weird way, a minimalist remix of a song that hasn't been titled or released, haha.

This was a good exercise at seeing how far I could twist a sample with LSDJ though.

Related note, does anyone have any tips on ways to reduce sample noise in LSDJ?  The noise doesn't bother me except when I let the chord trail out, at which point it becomes quite noticeable.  Maybe nothing can be done about it, but if anyone has any tips, I'd love to hear them!

I like the noise, it's like, noise pop, 'n stuff.

cool shtuff man :]

Sounds almost like a sample from vinyl. Like your pre-mix remix concept. Also like the rhythm chops and chord progressions.

like hearing real chords in lsdj! so with your knowledge of sampling, do you think that putting vocal samples in would be possible? or would the noise make the pitch incomprehensible?

the kit samples are so good, I really need to figure out how that.  This track is great, friend.  Really outdid yourself cool

really sweet track!  this makes me really want to play around with custom kits smile

interesting work! Yes,Spry,i have the same wish after listening to this track big_smile

I'm glad this inspires people to dig into custom kits. I'm also working on a song I made custom kits of piano chords for, and the piano definitely sounds clearer than the electric guitar, but still has that fuzzy bad vinyl quality.

@handcannon - I think vocal samples would work, but I've noticed that the longer the sample is, the more noise you notice, so I'd recommend slicing the vocals up pretty small.  This song, for instance, the guitar chords each take up a whole kit, and the noise is more noticeable than a track where I had two piano chords per kit (shorter samples).  Seems to work better.

Holy crap. This is literally the coolest freaking song I have ever heard from you. I would kill for an album of this.

this is pretty friggin awesome. its a sexy use of noise.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

nice one

that was so effing cool! can't wait to hear the track with the piano kits!
