The Evolver and the Tempest

By rdomain on June 4, 2022 1:59 am

This is my tribute to Dave Smith who passed away this week. A true pioneer in the world of electronic music.

This track was created with two of my favourite synths which were designed by Dave Smith; the Evolver synth and the Tempest drum machine hence the title of the song.  No other instruments were used.

This sounds awesome, and for good reasons.

RIP, Dave―MIDI wasn't just a game-changer, it introduced several dimensions of new boards.

This is fantastic, man. Such a big sound, and it hits real hard.

Fantastic. Must be played definitively at high volume.

Ooof that first blaring synth hit sounds so good.  The grittiness of the synths with the breakbeats sounds awesome.  The added fx really give it that 90s big beat vibe.  The drums have such a nice tone to them too.  Awesome work!

That arp passage opening up the track is delightful ear candy. Really nice gritty drum tone. And wow, that bass is aggressive!

Is that drum sound from the Tempest, including the hits that sound like laser? The sound is really huge and apocalyptic, love this. These arps are also quite fantastic, along with the rubber bass that growls, like giant sea lions that are very upset. This tracks takes me to another place. The beat has a tribal vibe and the synth has an organic, living element to it. Quite fantastic.

Killer tribute! Does his inventiveness great honor heart

Thanks man! Believe it or not, all the main fx are from the hardware too!

Thank you!  The beats are all Tempest but the laser sound is from the Evolver.

Thanking you kind sir.

I will get round to listening to everyones tracks over the coming week or 2.  I've been super busy again along with some travel coming up and I also killed my main computer!  Typing on a chromebook currently.
Thanks everyone!

This is amazing and a wonderful tribute. Sounds kind of timeless: I can hear the 90s big-beat, the electro, and modern production all at once and it's awesome. (I don't own any Dave Smith instruments, but I really want to get a Prophet eventually.)

Thanks heaps!  Yes, you can't go wrong with any of his instruments really.  My fave are those 2 though personally.  Prophets are definitely timeless and sound incredible.
