A Far Cry From Civilisation

By rdomain on April 21, 2024 1:28 pm

Modular synth performance with minimal edits.

DPO on bass/kick, Elements into Ikarie and Matter on beats, Rings into Z-DSP and Data Bender on melodic plucks and Ataraxic Translatron into Starlab on lead. Lots of CV modulation, feedback mixing and generative CV patching going on.

Here's a little peak of the patch running.

Gosh I really need to get rings lol. The hard pan on those plucks is great ear candy and just the right volume/frequency range to make some space. Really dig the drifting synth strings as well, how are you sequencing the melodic elements/ v/oct?

Thanks!  And yes, Rings is such a great module.  So much so that I have 2 of them!  Haha.  Everything is sequenced via CV.  I don't use any midi with my modular.  Most of the sequencing is done via the Varigate 8/Volatage Block combo and maybe Marbles a bit.  Lots of CV control going on.  I'm playing the lead line manually using the Voltage Block.

Superb tone on these tight percussive elements. There is a crunchy, sound, that sounds a bit like static but might be stuttering drums - this is such a nice effect. The wailing pads are haunting. I like how it ends in a peaceful manner, as if we found a little oasis of fragile life in this cold landscape.

That instagram pic is magic.

wow, file this in my "i don't know how you made this (even after reading your notes), but i'm so glad you did" file. so cool!

Otherworldly mix and sounds. Phenomenal session.

Wow this goes places!

Man Starlab is just an amazing module... and you know Rings just can't sound bad... I love the atmosphere in this track.  Great sense of forward movement and tension through out.  Also, I love that your whole bottom row in your synth is just Mutable modules (*^^*)♡ ... but my heat goes out the Frames that got bumped to row two (>▽<)
