Temporal Abomination

By RawTicks on February 1, 2014 9:13 pm

I thought I'd try to do a mathcore track for the no 4/4 theme this week. 3/4, 7/4, 9/4 time signatures were used.
So I screamed in a mic (first time I've ever did that) and it turned out quite shitty. I would have liked the track to have more voice parts but wasn't able to grunt properly. I'm quite happy with the instrumental composition though (which was all done in Ableton - guitars were physically modeled with Tension, drums are samples), but not so pleased with the mix and master again, both of which I struggled a lot with. I'll try to do better next week I guess!

This is pretty cool. For what it's worth, with the mix, the only thing I'd suggest is - and this is my personal preference - try to make it sound as if there's an actual band playing it. Ie. The cymbals will be omni directional (to an extent), but most of the other drums wouldn't be. The drums are just too spread out (in my opinion). Everything else is solid though!

Thanks for listening. As for the drums, I took some studio recorded multisampled drum kit which come with Live and didn't touch the panning of the drum parts. As it is, the drum sounds like you're near it (like, you're in the studio with the drummer) but I thought that if I'd took everything near the center then the mix would have been even more clustered. I'll have to try in another song!

I really like this haha!! GRRRRR

way better than my many attempts at poly rhythms!

Yes, mathcore needs more attention! Some of the instrumentals kinda reminded me of Protest the Hero wink.

fucking dope, dude

Digging the poly-rhythms here

I like it heart

Vinpous makes a good point, but this track is fuckin GRRRRRReat anyway smile

Man, the rhythms in here are great - it doesn't sound contrived or clumsy at all, there is such a nice flow to the riffs!

Some cool sections though the piece.  Dig the dissonance with the main guitar part!
