I had so much fun with this one.

When I started making electronic music several years ago, I was deep into drum'n'bass, breakcore and that kind of stuff, which is more easily done in software. I was mainly using Reason at the time. Then someday I switched to hardware, and never really made drum'n'bass anymore (and almost never finished a track since TBH). But last december I bought Live and decided I'd like to have some fun making a drum'n'bass track, like back in the days.

So I was working on this track during the holidays, while trying to learn Live, which I had for about two weeks. When I learned about weekly beats, it was about two days before the week 01 upload time limit and I wasn't confident enough to finish my d'n'b track in time, so I took some sounds out of it and made a quick track for week 01 (Film Noir).

I decided to finish that d'n'b track this week. Since I had maybe 75% of the composition done, I had more time to work on the arrangement, explore FX and work on the mix. There are some processed x0xb0x patterns in there, a couple of sliced breaks, synths, and orchestral sounds, the last two of which were taken in Live library. I think I landed the mix right (sidechain compression, why did I wait so long before learning properly about it?) and am quite happy with the results.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it!

nice crazy synth. sounds like ring modulation in some throaty lp filters.

The mix of DnB-style composition/rhythms with the classical melodies/instruments in the beginning is literally like nothing I've heard before, and it is quite pleasing to the ear indeed! You can hear the fun you had with this oozing out of the beats, great work!

Great work on this, Raw Ticks. Solid all around. I like the way the track evolves into different spaces.

Very AFX-esque at times (which duh is good!).  The woodwinds I'm digging especially with the snaps.  Suhweet drums as well.  I like the filtered drums toward the end and the Squelchariffic x0x line too smile

a really outstanding blend! Super precise fx and chopping work. Lovely!!

this is awesome. love how spastic it gets at times

Dope, agree with the afx comparison

Lots of goodness in this track.  From sick beats to great nasally synth acid.  Nice work!!

Thanks everyone for the comments, glad you liked it!
