this was a recording by accident: i was testing out some things on the app i'm creating for norns and ran into some weirdness caused by going back and forth in the UI... when i finally got it fixed, had started this recording and fell into the zone immediately smile
i've added so many features to the app since this recording too, but since this is a good mid-point, i think i'll archive this one up as this week's progress, and next week's will be even more musically-focused(this week's is especially zoned-out and spacey because i added a second kind of stutter: 'geometric series', so i can have straight stutter or geometric, and the rhythms can sound like they're stuttering off-kilter, or even bouncing out of control(bucephalus-bouncy style, haha)... then always coming back to the basic-sequence... i like this effect... got me in a trance for a bit smile )

hope ya like heart

I missed the thing about the app at some point, but these are some nifty sounds you’re making. There’s something about those rapidly repetitive sounds that is unsettling. Is there a name for that phenomenon?

I’m intrigued to learn about the app. Very amusing to self evaluate interval pattern recognition in this one.

There's an odd sense of relaxation to this.

yes. this definitely has an ASMR vibe :>

This app sounds very cool.  I always like when I get cool or weird sounds by happy accident.  I remember one time I had a guitar pedal that was glitching for some reason and it made a really cool noise in the process, so I made sure I recorded it.  Then it stopped glitching and I couldn't get it to make that sound again.  I agree despite the chaotic elements of this track, there's also a soothing vibe to it.

it must be fun programming such wild granular and stutter effects. it shall be controllable in the future, I guess. did you check out the samplebrain app by aphex twin? might be inspiring for you.

YO I am so aWOKE after this.  imagine this as your alarm clock.

wow, i looked up norns stuff - crazy.  great diversity of sound on this track, and love the bouncing ballity of it all.

great call!  that is 100% Raja.

oh 3:55 could be a whole other track, hmmm, i need to take that idea.

Heyyyyyy this sounds like.... oh right you said it smile  My brain was fumbling with the name but def gave me some early Aphex vibes with the cool effect.  That's pretty awesome you're working on an app.  Stutter effects are always fun to play with.

What a great to stumble upon to create some glitch with!  I've always been tempted by Norms but have never dived in.  Cool you're creating your own apps for it.
Nice work!

Thanks so much! The rapidly repetitive sounds are the stutters(if i'm thinking of the same thing you are), the ones that accelerate and decelerate are arithmetically known as a geometric series but i like to call them 'zipper stutters'(they sound like the noise a zipper makes as the stutters accelerate or deccelerate), also known among the more academic-elite as 'zipper fart noises' big_smile lol wink

Thank you(hopefully will release it to the public sometime in the next couple months). Ya, i was having the same experience: having fun losing the beat then catching it big_smile

Thank you immensely! Ya, happy-accident glitches are the best smile

Thank you! Ya, definitely so much fun(good point: control is something i'm going to have to keep sculpting...). I did use samplebrain recently for a 'disquiet junto' track, the project asked to use samplebrain, it was fun and easy to use: [soundcloud]1353916546[/soundcloud]
i should try to use it more for source-material(it gets pretty deep, i haven't gotten to know all the details yet)

Thank You! Haha, i like that part too big_smile It sounds a bit creepy, like you think you're floating away to freedom finally at that point in the song but all of a sudden some underwater monster starts knocking on the bottom of the boat lol (i dunno how to describe it, that part definitely does something for me too tho smile)

Thank You (Ya, love that 'Bucephalus Bouncing Ball' track, and Autechre had some tracks that played with similar rhythms.. i keep playing with stutters like this in every environ i try out, too much fun) Much Appreciated smile

So grateful you enjoyed the glitch big_smile Norns is definitely great fun. Truly Appreciated heart

Perfectly executed, I’m always drawn to the glitch/stutter sound in music, it can be hard to manage and control but you have used it to great effect here.  Listening to this in a park right now, 15 cm of snow fell last night, it’s a great audio companion to the winter landscape.

What a cool setting to listen in, glad you felt it big_smile
