Sparkling Specterz

By RajaTheResidentAlien on April 9, 2022 8:01 pm

All sounds here synthesized in Max and the full track recorded straight from the patch along with the video which shows how to use the patch if interested:

and the full patch(minus the source-pics i generated from nightcafe), shared here:

Thanks for checking it out!

the spectres sparkle so spookily.
those loud bits at 1:45 are doing things for me.

damn i started listening before reading the description and totally thought the kinda closed hat sound was a sample and not synthesized. loved the deep low kick pulse throughout, and i agree with

and keep the rhythm driving with the hats.

and thanks for including the bts video which wow, psychedelic automated specterz for real - the video really works so well with the audio. very cool!

Wow, your patch work in Max is really impressive and this Jitter visualization is just so so good heart

Downloaded the Max patch, will try to dissect this a bit later, will be back here w/ questions. Remarkable, remarkable work.

Also, I really liked how the demo video shows a few things and then times the full-screening of the jitter window just in time for the kicks to go hard. heart

This is super cool, the way it develops and bubbles sounds very organic, great patch

The sounds of alien logic and the hive mind processing, pushing forward, encountering new beings along the way.

Love this visuals too.

really cool and trippy, love that alien synth that comes in and just breaks reality

Lots of great alien textures to absorb here.  I like how it starts off fairly simple and sort of gently eases us into this world before the strangeness amps up more.  Cool visuals in the video, too.

This is incredible.  I don't really understand Max, but the soundscape you can create here is unreal!

I don't fully understand the backend of whats going on, but the results are super interesting and trippy. It's amazing how many different routes there are to creating music. I'm only starting to dip my toes into Reaktor 6, which I assume is sort of within the same realm as Max? I'll have to look more into it. I especially like how you were able to tie in a visual element that just really makes it otherworldly. The whole piece is almost like an electronic form of zeuhl.

This is completely trippy. The images look like they are GAN generated. Is that correct? And different frequency ranges or maybe instruments are assigned to differnt images, resulting in the choice of what images are displayed at the same time, with alpha applied to it? It is super arcane, very weird, in an interesting way. I like that and want to know more about the background of this!

So grateful you all liked it, thank you immensely! heart

Thanks so much! Ya feel free to ask anytime, it's nothing too advanced, just went by ear mostly... i realize now i also forgot to comment(my bad) in the patch: keys '0','-', '=', and 'spacebar' all trigger certain instruments in the patch to play or not.

Ya, you guessed it (VQGAN + CLIP to be exact: Vector Quantized Generative Adversarial Network with Contrastive-Language-Image-PreTraining - basically just what "nightcafestudio" uses when you select to work with a text prompt instead of doing 'style transfer' of provided images... my text prompt was, "Hooded Specter At Crossroads of Sparkly Nebula" with "graffiti", "surrealism", and "8K 3D" as text modifiers... then once i got an image i liked, i kept modifying it by only tweaking the 'random seed' to generate different versions of the same... then loaded these pics into Jitter which merely used amp-threshold of the beat to trigger a new random image, but there's also shader-based effects i made in Jitter which sample the image at different points, and 'slide' or smear the image around when triggered similarly by the amp-threshold(no alpha, just this shader from the max library called "tp.slide"(temporal-displacement/slide) applied within my own shader which altogether makes the sparkly backgrounds smear out more)... hard to explain much else in text, but that pretty much covers it)
Thank You So Much!

This was mysterious magical ride. Those sparkles are magic.  Love the visuals. Thanks for sharing the process! I want to start playing with visuals too, but would prob mean a bit less time on the music so we'll see.

Another treat for the ears, thank you.  I always appreciate the unique nature of the sounds you put in your tracks each week.

Great stuff here!  The music shifts along nicely in various forms and the visual aspect is also very interesting.  Thanks for sharing.

Also I just saw this last night, and based on your Max patch, I feel like you'd love this behind the scenes of Imogen Heap tech (I think a lot of this WeeklyBeats community would find this dope too) - it blew my mind:

This is like a creepy Nintendo mystery game

WHAT THE ABSOLUTE HECK

Imogen Heap is a time traveller and just came back like, "Yeah, this is how we do music in 4085, I'll translate this to English and explain."
