Rage Into The Abyss

By RajaTheResidentAlien on April 3, 2022 10:09 pm

this track(completed in 4 days), was supposed to be so much more intricately detailed, but ran out of time... (in the future i will try to start as early as possible in the week for a track like this)...
using vcv and aalto as plugins in renoise(plus a few added drum samples from my collection, and my own poser-metal guitar-playing ...('poser-metal'? that should be a genre on its own... or maybe this one's more like 'poser-industrial'))

here's a longer vid screencap of me going through the weird choices i made in Renoise, even though, as i went through it i got a little lost while attempting to reveal it all to the viewer:

Thanks for checkin it out(this one's in public domain). Hope ya like heart smile

Dang, this thing hits hard. Great patches! heart

There's nothing poser about this, darkness rules -- I think the guitar's a highlight for me (and I feel it needs to be louder). Also, the metal kick drums are fantastic. Love it.

Yay! Have been addicted to trying to get the drums and bass louder(i may be going too far with that, though, hahaha). Thank you so much heart

Much appreciated! Ya, i should really practice guitar more, then i'll just come at it with full blown confidence(as i kept playing this one little lick, i got frustrated at how far i've come with production, but still have to go back and make time to practice instruments, etc... i just need to keep my head up and keep at it). Thank you so much for the encouragement, always vastly appreciated heart

I like the whole dark feeling and esp. at the end the bass synth phrase.

I felt like the guitar parts were fine for this track, but I can understand your need to get better, I know that feeling. Still, I didn't realize how much can be done with even simple skills on an instrument, when you take care of the general sound, and your track is proof!! You seem to have the composition chops, getting better at the instrument is a direct factor of how much time you spend on it so I guess godspeed hahah.

That some sweet groove you got going there. I love all the different sounds going on at once but seem to mesh perfectly. That kick is so heavy, I love it. The melody at 1:30 has excellent phrasing and I love whatever sound that is. Great job on this one. Super heavy!

Great track to slay demons with tho

Guitar sounds good to me, fits really well with the overall sound, I can't play any real instruments, awesome you could add the guitar, great industrial vibe with the dark pads and intricate programming on the dark drus.  Thanks for sharing the video, nice to see different peoples workflow and setup.

super sick, super dark!  love those hard hits and the ethereal reverb.

cool video but I have 0 idea about what's going on in it!!

The guitar like riff is really good. My favorite section of this track is the weird noise riff from 1:28. Just before that transition, does the guitar gets into a wailing scream? Or did I just dream it?
Beautiful southpaw track!

Ha, so true: must make the investment in time to practice. Thank you so much for this encouraging feedback!

So glad you liked it, ya: i LOVE that kick, was worried it was too much, but i'm glad it carries through with the slamming effect i was going for smile

Thank you! Glad the vid got some appreciation, too(really need to work on presenting things more smoothly and concisely, haha).

So appreciated! and HA: i also had 0 idea about what was going on in that video(why i stumble so much trying to reveal different things, but end up having to go back and revisit parts of the song over and over and over and...) Thank you!

Truly Grateful you liked it! The guitar does go into a wailing scream at that part, i had to edit that in, haha: played just one single slow pitch-bend on my guitar over and over to record it into that one part, until i got it somewhat right(problem was, i couldn't hear it very well... i also made that scream automate into mixed valhalla supermassive reverb in order to ring out the top/destination pitch of the bend... so it definitely screams, but probably sits back too far in the mix by that point, too... glad all these things i tried made at least some of the intended impact, tho... good catch!). Infinite Thanks!

I like how the primary groove comes back to focus mid way out of the chaos and the craziness at the end was a good sender.  Cool industrial tinge to it all.  My brain has never gelled with trackers for some reason so nice work!

awesome, love the integration of VCV with renoise.

favorite part was bringing the little cowbell type thing forward at 1:00 amidst all the HEAVY stuff big_smile like a little birdy flying around the t-rexes' heads

Wow, there's so much to this track in its diverse range of sounds and movements. I particularly like the way it breaks down/blisses out around 8:30 following everything that comes before. And I hear you, it can be hard making compromises on more ambitious ideas when the clock is ticking and the deadline is looming...

it would fit really well in doom. Love the complex melody going at 1:50

Thank you! (ya, i feel ya: trackers take a bit of getting used to... fun once a flow gets going tho)

Thank you so much! (ya, this one was a bit too ambitious: considering it carried a vibe i didn't want to feel for longer than a week, glad i compromised, but even more so now that people feel it turned out ok) Truly appreciated smile
